I just did my first oil change yesterday @ 3200 miles , used a Motorcraft filter and Delo 15-40 . The truck sat for about an hour before I drove it . I started the truck , let it idle for about 5 seconds and put it into drive , pressed on the pedal just enough to get it to move and the truck started to buck/surge/bounce .after the rpms came up alittle it was ok and it didn't do it again until I shut it off and restarted it 30 minutes later and it did it in reverse .
You'r not the first one to experience this. How many quarts of oil did you fill the crancase with? Did you loosen the oil fill tube cover and the oil filter cap (but not remove) before you took out the drain plug on the pan? When you checked your oil at the end of the change, where was the oil level.
Monster, do a search on this forum for first oil change and get yourself a beer and snack and read. Lot's of good stuff.
For the next newbie who is about to change their oil please measure what drains out! I have read 13.5 quarts. That is what I put in to get the oil on the dipstick at midway or top of the crosshatch on the dipstick.
Monster, I know what you are talking about. My new 03 excursion does the same thing. But I haven't changed the oil it has less than 400 miles on it. It seems to do it exactly after being ran to temp, left to cool down about half then fired up put in rev or drive and it bucks or jerks until you give it a hard throttle push.
SBV45, what makes these motors so picky on oil type and or level?
If you search the threads you will find the info that the fuel injection system works partially off the oil pressure system. If the oil foams, it doesn't properly pressurize the high pressure fuel rail.(or things to that effect). That is one of the reasons the proper oil needs to be used. Unless I'm having a sneior moment, I also recall that there is no windage tray in the oil pan and that significantly contributes to foaming if there is an overfull condition. The other thing you need to remember is that it takes as long as 20 minutes for all the oil to drain to the pan. If you run the engine to warm the oil, drain it and refill to the "full" mark, there's more oil in that engine than you think. Let it sit for an hour, and the pan is overfull. SBV45 is spot on. Mine takes right at 14 quarts to fill after a drain and filter change.
