The thing doesn't have any parts that generally go bad. Except..my friend Cody. His suspension takes a beating because..well..he treats it like a Rally car. He lives in the country and takes a class B minimal maintenance road to school every day as a bypass and...he goes over stuff in that thing at 45-50 miles an hour that I'd be going over in first maybe second gear.
All that is saying is that the harder you treat something the more likely you are to break something.
I want my Escort for something to keep my truck from driving alot - it sucks gas, the escort doesn't. Also...I'd like something that had some speed, too. 300 has the torque..but the Escort has the same horsepower in a body SO much lighter. =)
