I have an early 99 4X4 cc dually 6spd with the starter package of mods ( 6637, straight piped, Gauges and Dp Tuner in that order of installation).
What mods am I looking at in the near future to help my new mods? I haul trailers in my work so probably a new clutch. This is my first PSD so I would like to know what to look and listen for.
Thanks
Jeff
Depending on heavy those trailers you pull, a 3.5 or 4 inch downpipe will help lower your EGTs. An ITP overboost regulator will allow for higher boost numbers without the fear of defueling. A 6.0 intercooler is a resonably cheap mod that lowers egts as well. If you have experienced turbo surge, a WW ($70)or an ATS housing ($400) will help and/or eliminate that problem.
i need to thank you for this..i was new to the forum back when you did this..i read it and took notes on my calender on my desk of what to get and what to do....thats how i got started a few weeks back...the only thing i didnt do is get the inter cooler..i cant seem to find boots to fit my early 99 turbo...my truck run strong now...i love it..thanks kris.. left ya some points
Aw cool, thanks Ron. You gave me that second green reputation dot.
lol you earned it for sure...i couldnt remember who wrote it but i took notes..when it was time for buying alan helped me along..got to love this site...becoming a supporter here was by far the best mod
Thankyou for all your imput! Ron your link for common mods is now part of my " favorites ". I am thinking that either The ATS or HPOP will be in very near future. The mountain hiways that I travel have some pretty steep grades I am inclined to go with the HPOP for oil pressure help while under loads. Is my thinking correct?
Thanks
Jeff
If you're towing also considering putting in a tranny cooler (I put in a tru-cool in line with the stock and now when towing rarely see anything over 170* regardless of outside temps). I also put in the Sonnax springs to firm up the shift points.
our early 99 has a smaller turbo (thats why it whistles so well) it has a smaller peddalstel.. the hpop is little weeker and the injetors are a little smaller..the have a kit for the turbo and peddlestal..for around 900 bucks but i want to do it the right way and buy the parts for a 2000 and up PSD ..one piese at time of corse..i already over spent this year..
I would recommend to definitely NOT change out the turbo. It is in essence already the wicked wheel and not prone to turbo surge like the later model 7.3's. There are many members that have opted to go with the wicked wheel due to surge but I have yet to see a single early '99 member that needed to go that route.
