YES! I finally got my oil light to stay off even at idle in gear! I put in 20w50 and some oil treatment and the light never even flickers. But now it occasionally diesels when I turn it off and it never has before, what could cause this? Is the head not getting enough oil cooling?
Also, where can you get the grommits for the valve covers? My stock oil cap broke and I had a hard time finding a replacement that had a hole for the pcv valve (of course it's too small so I have to go back and find a pcv that'll fit). But being the retard I am, I also pulled out the old grommit on the other cover (the one that runs to the air cleaner) now I can't find a grommit that'll fit to hold the hose again.
So to recap: I've been running without either the breather tube hooked up nor a PCV valve. So could this be causing the dieseling?
Yes...I agree with Torque1st..the HELP line of goodies...and Advanced Auto has the OEM style oil filler cap with PCV grommet in stock.
I'd find out what your oil pressure really is. Buy a cheap mechanical oil pressure gauge from Ebay and hook it up. The SunPro or AutoGage lines are cheap and work well. Make sure your problem is an idiot light problem, and not a REAL oil pressure problem, ie is your oil pump failing...hich could cause lubrication starvation on your bearings and ruin your engine.

But that IS my problem, my bearings are almost dead (170K), I was running 10w30 and after warming up the valve train would sound like it was exploding at idle and the light would come on.
After 20w50 no more noise, no more light, just dieseling. (light still lights at startup like it should then goes out) Oh, I forgot I also put in a Bosch filter.
My oil cap was metal too, it just broke apart and into the cover!
I bought what I think is the OEM one from autozone (looks the same but chrome) but the grommit is too small for the old pcv valve.
Before my engine died (when it was in really rough shape)...I threw in some STP oil treatment. It worked very well...quited all the clanging and increased gas mileage. It is a thick syrup like goo. I would NEVER add it to a new engine or one in good shape, but in your case, it sounds like you have nothing to lose, so maybe give it a shot.
