I was looking at the new superchips and seen that it will work for my 96 f-150 5.8? Im pretty sure my pickup doesnt have a chip in it now to program and have never seen a tuner for it.. So I was wondering if that is correct?
How though, Im pretty sure my truck has the same computer as the 95, were you just plug the chip in.. Iv took off the kick panel by the parking brake to get the code off the computer for a diablo chip... Or does 96 OBDII have a internal chip that can be programmed?
with a tuner you just plug it in the OBD II port under the glove box and load the program, it flashes the PCM, no chip is installed by FORD. a chip requires you to remove the computor box and clean the port and insert the chip, then reinstall the box. pretty simple.
I'm kind of curious too. I have looked for the OBD II plug in my '97 (5.8) and I can't find it. There is a ECC plug on hte right side of the engine compartment by the hood spring, but that is all I can find?? I just want to be sure before I buy the programer and then can't program anything.
OK, I looked when I got home yesterday and still did not see it. Unless it is hidden behind something or stuffed way up under the dash. Is it possible that mine is not OBD II?
it should have a cap on it. Black, looks like the 9 pin connector your mouse uses only bigger-about 1 1/2" x 3/4". rectangle shaped with the corners cut off on one side and up high under the dash. Its OBD II
are you shur its ping and not an exhaust leak, they sound kinda the same when you step on it? mine did the same thing and it was a leak. tighten the bolts on the headers/manifold and see, can't hurt.

Thank You, ssn Randy! I'm pretty shure it's a ping, and it only appears when using the tuner, but I agree, it can't hurt to check the bolts. Excuse me, ford 5.8, for answering my post, in yours!
Its not there. I have looked the last 2 weekends and even had the wife look this weekend. Is it possible that mine is still ECC? I see the plug for it, it is right under the hood on the right side. I'm confused.
