Will my toploader hold?

I am in the process of rebuilding a 460 for my 67 F100 and i already have a 4speed toploader (truck was originally a 3 on the tree...gag) that i had planned to use. The only thing that i am concerned about is it holding up to the BBF. The 4speed was out of a 1970 mustang and from what i know it has the small input shaft and close ratio gearing. The tranny was bolted up to a 351c in my dads 1960 Ford truck with a dually rear and it seemed to run great and held up without any problems...then again a 351c is a totally different story compared to the 460. Anyone have any info about this swap?

No info on the swap, but a Toploader will hold up to plenty of abuse. It's the C6 of the manual world.

Yes the Toploader will stand pretty much all the 460 can dish out. I ran a small block Toploader 4 speed behind a side oiler 427 with 2-4 bbl carbs back in the 80's , never broke one because of the smaller input/output shafts. I did break a couple from using an incorrect bellhousing. Make damn sure the input fits into the pilot bearing with whatever bellhousing you're using.

im concerned about this also as i have bolted my old toppy up to my new 460 which is makeing some 560hp and a heap more tourqe than the 351 before it.

You guys in the US are lucky as u can still get 31 spline shafts plus internals i cant. I will be calling up one day soon to see if anyone is willing to ship one over for me.

If you need the parts to convert a 28 spline Toploader to 31 spline, go to 4speedtoploaders.com This is David Kee's website, he ships worldwide. Sold him a 65 Galaxie Toploader 6 months ago, he pulled the mainshaft out and shipped it to England.

Top Loader info

Top loaders there are about 8 diferent ones to choose from. There is the four small input shaft ones and than the four large input shaft ones. The small input shaft ones have the two that are close ratio gearing and two far ratio gearing. Than they have the long input shaft to pilot bearing and the short one in each of these gear ratio selections. The same in the large shaft ones. Make sure what ever ratio or size in diameter shaft you have use the long input shaft so it will go into the pilot bearing. I know the 1966 falcon had a small input 1-1/16 and the long nose input shaft that I had behind my 428 scj 2/4barrle 660comp carbs in my 1970 F100 ran 13.0s I also ran it with a 460 and no problems. I now have a 1-1/8 top loder and it also has the long shaft. I am puting my F100 back on the road hope to put my dream in it (460)557 stroker engine 800 hp. see my pics in web shots.

Unless I'm mistaken , the large input shafts only came with the short-big block input, because only the big block cars got big input Toploaders.
