So I decided to replace the toploader behind my 302 with a c4 and now it's just taking up space in an already overcrowded garage. I never had any problems with the transmission but then again at the time I was using it the motor was bone stock. Anyone ever used one in a performance application? I guess what I'm getting at is should I hold onto it for the next project or liquidate the inventory? So far i have come across mixed reviews. Any opinions?
Are you thinking in terms of using it a performance application yourself, or just wondering what the market for it is? I have indeed used a 3-speed Toploader in a performance application, specifically a circle track stock car. I needed a 1.75 second gear and certain 3-speed Toploaders have that ratio, and it's a strong enough transmission for what I needed. Not sure I'd run one on the street though, three gears just isn't enough to keep my need to shift gears satisfied!
Honestly I could care less about the market as they really aren't worth much just if it's even worth the space it's taking up. Not sure of the gearing but first gear was pretty low and pulled pretty hard after that not so much, either way definitely not enough gears for a street truck... maybe a drag race aplication
