i got a couple CB whips for my pickup the other day, and was wondering how to mount them. i want one on each front corner of the bed. i was thinking of just drilling holes in the front rail, tapping it, and screwing them right in. will this work? or is there a special mount to do this easier? thanx
EDIT: is there a way i could make a mount if i cant tap it?? i like to do things as cheap as possible (but still have it look ok) since i am short on $$ right now.

You can drill a hole, just seal off the bare steal. If you for some reason cant, they make brakets for bed mounting. Make sure you meter out your standing wave, dont want to fry your radio.
just wondering, do you have a tool box in the truck?
yes, i do have a tool box. its one that sits inside the bed, "underrail" as i think some people call them. it is mounted on brackets about 3" away from the front of the bed.
If you drill a hole through your truck, you will have unpainted steel exposed. Stuff will rust away fast once it rains and the moisture gets trapped in your mounting hardware. All ya really gotta do do is paint the edges of the holes.
the bare steel where you drill the hole in the top of the box rail- you dont want it to rust- maybe put the whip through the hole and put some caulk through it to keep water out
