I've got two Aeros, one is a AWD that is not running and not in to good of shape, I'm thinking of cutting the top off and turnning it into a Aero pick-up, has anyone ever seen this done?
Anything is possible. You are going to have some structural integrity issues to deal with.

I don't think the chassis of the Aerostar can handle this. It is sort of "box-on-frame", but its frame rails are not nearly as strong as those of a real pickup truck, nor even tat of an Explorer. It needs the top half of the box to maintain structural rigidity.
On the other hand, you can install a cage onto the frame after whacking off the top to maintain rigidity.

I've seen one in CA. The rear was riding VERY high due to so little weight over the rear wheels. It was wandering all over the road every time it hit a bump.
Here it is popular to use air cabin suspention of havy trucks as shocks... It is easy to infate it with pump ore compressor and to ajust ride clearance
Aerodude your van really looks good. It seems to sit properly. Mine saggs if I remove my spring booster. I have good pictures of mine in the galleries under B-aerostar
Aerodude, nice 'Star! Most of the ones around here look pretty beat up. B-Aerostar, where did you get your tailpipe cover from, that would look great on our van
that is one cherry original Aero ride.....love the glistening Ford clear coat paint and the white door handles
thought the only clean looking Aeros left were in sunny S. Calif. but at least one left on E. Coast
you must use 303 protectant (click) on door and window seals and exterior plastic....great stuff
what brand of wheels? tire size?
love the windshield eyebrow....best implementation I've seen on a van....looks like designer van
Thanks guys, the paint although you can't see it in the pics is not Ford but custom loaded with blue pearl. 303 is great stuff for sure. the wheels are Weld Super Light copies made by Prime w stock 215/70/14 tires. The visor is a Lund Moonvisor.
I'm sure it has some drag but it isn't sealed across the roof there are huge cut outs to let air flow through. You only notice it around 185 mph... lol yea right!
now that's a super clean example of an Aero... I'm working on getting my PVC paint booth together in the driveway... The cool part is I've got a couple of buddies who paint for a living who're going to help me out.
