is there any other crazy people like me that want a pimped out aero? ive already started redoing my interior. i have a cheap cd player, 60watt blaunkput amp pushin 2 6" tube subs. i know it sounds funny but it kicks pretty good. i fabricated 91 eclipse seats into the front. if anyone wants to know how just let me know. right now i can white smoke 1 tire, haha. anyone else have a custom van? any websites? ive seen a few kickass aerostars but not exactly what i want. please post and let me know the mods you all have.
Well I havent even began redoing my interior yet but I have done some mods to the van itself. I replaced the stock air intake with a cone filter and a cold air/ram air intake. Ripped out the stock exhaust and put in a Cherrybomb Glasspack w/o cats. Runs to the back and splits in two right after the rear tire. I am about to convert to an electric fan and polish the intake and exhaust manifolds. I have a brass distributor cap and rotor also. I put some zip ties on my throttle cable to allow the throttle body to open fully without having to push the pedal through the floor. I am in the process of doing a digital dash swap and a 5 speed tranny swap. In the meantime I am going to put a shift kit in the stock tranny. Will mostlikely rip out the interior and redo it without the rear seat and some trim, will help a little on weight. Had a friend time me the other day in 0-60, he said that it was mid 6's. Dont know how accurate he was though.
sounds a bit faster than me. so even if the pedal is to the floor its not full throttle? i have a 91, is it different? let me know the zip tie mod, instant me if you have aim :suprajztwenty. thanks
Regarding the throttle cable mod, I dont know about your van but when I lightly pushed the accelerator to the floor the butterfly in the intake was only partially open. If you slammed it to the floor and pushed hard it would finally open almost fully. So I lifted the pedal to put slack in the cable and put 3 or 4 zip ties between the contact surface of the cable and pedal. In effect I caused the pedal to sit up about an inch higher and the throttle to open fully. Did it about a month ago and have had no problems.
the fishing weights sounds like an easy fix. they just clamp on for the people that dont go fishing. but they are lead so i dont know how well theyd hold up. my engine has the little plastic cover over the t/b and i was too lazy to take it off. but ill check it out tomorrow when i get a chance. by the way, has anyone gotten better fuel economy from changing a fuel filter? i just changed mine today, it was cheap and exremely easy. the van used to be a work van for my dads roofing company and its seen plenty of abuse. it had a ton of logos on it (billboard on wheels) and i just took them all off yesterday and half the day today. washed it, waxed it, looks excellent. has anyone painted their bumpers or rims? i have the base line rims so theyre ugly. i was wondering if theyd look better in a different color than regualr gray (the van is white) any suggestions would help me a lot. thanks guys
i painted my back bumper back to its original charcoal grey, except for the center, which i left black. then i got that chrome looking plastic wheel trim (that sticks on above the wheel wells usually) and ran it in the grooves above and below the black middle strip. it restored it back to what it had new, prior to three fender benders and a rude introduction to a low retaining wall. i just used ppg stuff from the auto parts store....now i'm thinking of running that grey strip all the way along the lower side of the van, for wheels, i have stock 91 steel rims with chrome center caps and chrome rings, i like the look. i always keep them shiney i have firestone fire hawk raised white letter tires all the way around. it makes me happy!! rick 91 aerostar xl,ext. 4.0 198 thou mi......
I got a 1991 Ford Aerostar Conversion Hi-top van, customized new by Aero Vans, Inc. It's the only factory made custom van I have ever seen so I wonder if any of you have seen one? It would be nice to see other Aerostar factory custom van's and get inspiration for modifications. If any of you have any pictures or websites with cars like that I would appreciate it. And by the way, this forum has helped me a lot...Thank you all!
I have never seen an Aero conversion van except for internet pictures....used to be thousands of Aeros on the road here in Pacific Northwest...very popular with utility/service/phone companies....most are now in the bone yard used parts crusher emporium.....
had my '96 AWD Ext since new....will probably drive it until can't get parts any longer....no resale used car value to them
great travel, winter photograpy rig
