Alternator or what ?
Hi everyone,
Hope you can help me once more.I have a 1989 aerostar.The engine seems fine but I have noticed the last few days The van has a hardtime to start
after being run for a while on a trip.It will crank.Thinking it was the starter
I replaced it coz its old 10 years but now I notice a negative charge on the amps meter.And as I race the engine it does not increase as before.The belts are good I believe its the alternator ?

yep sounds like the alternator, take it off and have it tested at one of the auto parts stores or a good alternator/starter motor repair shop. I have had two on my 4.0 V6 in two years, if you do replace it with one from a parts store make sure you replace the 3pin block connector that comes with the alternator and solder the wires together, don't use connectors, these wires get hot and can cause a fire in the engine bay.
