Well I'm definately not going to be able to get the motor, so thats out of the question. I'm not real worried about it. The 302 will pull anything I need and if not my 300 in my 78 will.

No, those transmissions are not the same. The 4x4 version has a deeper oil pan and a different filter (not a big deal, just something to remember when you're buying a filter for it.) and a shorter tailshaft. The Transfer case is bolted to the transmission directly on a 4x4, so it doesn't have the long tailshaft and housing there. I don't know if you can just take off the t-case on the new transmission and just replace it with your old transmission's long tailshaft housing and tailshaft. That may involve opening the transmission, I don't know. Maybe you could just leave the transfer case on it and just leave it in 2H mode. You'll have to see if the face to yoke dimensions are close enough so that you don't need a new driveshaft. That way you'll be one step closer if you want to convert your truck to 4WD. And also, if you mount the controls, the lever for manual shift or the switch and wiring for ESOF, you'll have a 2WD truck with a 2 WD Hi and 2 WD Lo! That would be pretty cool. My truck has a removable access plate on the transmission tunnel that I could remove to install the 4WD manual shifter and dust boot, I think your truck might be the same.
