I have a 98 Explorer 5.0 V8. What I believe the Dryer/receiver is in my truck(right side close to FR wheel well. Cylindrical 5"~ long 2.5"~ wide with in/out lines) have what appears to be Green oil leaking under it. I was told that it is from the Refrigerant Dye leaking so you can identfy the leaker easier. The pad wrapped around the Dryer/Receiver is soaked in it as well-which leads me to believe its the source. I still have a/c only not nearly as fast or cold as last year.
Can I repl this my self? Im pretty handy with tools do a lot my own repairs I have never had a problem with A/C so i dont know what to do-besides go to a shop and spend too much!!!! But im willing to buy tools and learn
That would be the accumulator. The wrapping around it unfortunately traps water and they end up rusting out. The replacements do not have the wrapping. If you have AC equipment you can replace it yourself, or pay someone to recover it and recharge it after replacing it. You need an AC line coupler disconnect tool and some common tools to replace it. Its not all that expensive to have a shop do it all.
