Receiver/Dryer Replacement
I have a 1992 E-150 Conversion van with a 5.0 litre engine. I bought a new A/C compressor and Receiver/Dryer. I have replaced the compressor without any trouble. My problem is getting the fittings apart to replace the Receiver/Dryer. These are the ones with the small spring on the inside of the fitting.
Is there a special tool to open up the spring and take apart the fitting?

Yes. You should be able to get one at Pep Boys, Autozone, or just about any auto parts store. It looks like an X with half round sleeves on each end. If you replaced the compressor due to failure, make sure you replace the orifice, and flush the system. Pour about half of the required amount of oil in the receiver before you install it.
