A possible cause would be failed injector O rings. Check your fuel bowl - pull out the filter and see if the fuel looks darker than it should. This indicates oil in the fuel, a sympotm of leaking injector O rings. If it came on suddenly I would check this out. I ran across one that used 8 qts of oil in less than 1000 miles.

By the way, check your inservice date - this should be covered under the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty if the O rings are the problem.

Diesel Dude...

Diesel Dude,

Is there any waymy serial number could be checked? I've been having problems with our van .... it is out of warrenty in less than 300 miles and Ford still isn't doing anything....I had requested a Ford Engineer about 2 months ago to no avail. I requested that they hold out some oil for an oil analysis test but they forgot. They ran diagnostics on it and (again) nothing came up. They said they did discover oil misting from the blow-by....last time I had a mechanic look at it it was down 8 1/4 qts and had 1/2 qt in the v of the engine...it had been losing power where it was unsafe to drive. If I had to pay for the repairs over the last 40,000 miles it would run $12K and it appears it still isn't fixed....just a temp. The engine has been removed three times for oil leaks/low oil to replace gaskets, etc...three oil pumps, two water pumps, alternator, etc.

My serial number is 1061413. It was manufactured in June 99. The label also says KE 004 AC.

Thank you. I would REALLY appreciate your time.

I have a 99 PSD and have had the same problem. Approx 1 qt/1000 mi. I also only get 12 - 13 mpg. I just pulled my injectors because I knew they had to be clogged and found that 2 injectors were missing o-rings. I'm hoping when I get it back together I'll probably solve both problems. I'll let you know. I don't know how an assembler can not notice he's missing o-rings but I'm sure it happens all the time.

i just got back from a 2400 mile trip and on the last 500 mile leg I used 5 QUARTS!!!. but it was a turbo pedistal o-ring, really pissing it out.

If your truck is leaving puddles of oil it is either the gally plug in the head, or pedistal o-rings. If your getting oil in the vally like mollymj then I suspect a leaking HPOP line.

I do want to know where the serial number is cuz I have one that I need to know the build date of, so where can I find the number.
