Fill me in on emissions testing in San Diego CA

It looks like we're moving to San Diego, so I thought I'd better start learning about the emission testing procedure and frequency. Can anyone fill me in?

I don't know about San Diego, but do know that each test center has a list of what trucks are supposed to carry a Cat and what ones from the OEM do not. I had to put mine back in place, gutted of course.

Zilla, there are no emissions tests for diesels in California, no safety checks, no nothin' - nada, zip, zero, so your truck is off the hook. So long as it has a diesel you can do whatever you want with it in Cali.

Welcome to our great State!

Well now, how are you going to be able to get back up here for the next dyno pull?

California registration? Yeah, emissions testing and compliance is probably cheaper...

OK, you've got my attention. How bad is it likely to be? The company we work for is paying for registering both vehicles immediately after the move, but we'll have to renew when the time comes.

oh just dont get me started on the workmans comp insurance down here and the vehical insurance. makes me wonder how ive done business down here. well thats why i gotta charge $135. an hour now.....make you have a 750k policy on commercial vehicals over 10k grvw and then you have to pay CA DOT $250 a year for that.....its all that added up is why im a TX corporation now.....trucks are all reg in TX, insurance and all are outta TX now.

And you want to know the worst of it???? There was a massive decrease in vehicle registrations a year or two ago. You should have seen it BEFORE the fee decrease...

Local gas station - diesel dropped from $2.69 to $2.65. Not a big drop, but at least it isn't still rising - right now, anyway.
