Sub question

I am looking to give my truck a little more thump. The only problem is, I have a limited amt of smace behind my seat for a box. About 19-20" or so long, 7-7 1/2" or so deep and 13" high. I dont know what I can put in there. I was looking at an 8", but I dont know how good that would sound. Im not sure how big a box an 8" or a 10" would need. I also have a small amp, bout 100w RMS, dont know how good that would do. I dont want to be heard miles down the road, but I would like some thump. Also might mention that im short on $$$$. Any advice?

-P.S. already upgraded the door spkrs, soon the rear, and have an amp hooked up to the frnt and rear speakers.

hmmm for $200 i was able to make my truck thump like crazy and it sounds awesome over all. but unfortuantly the dual 10" subs in the 4th order bandpass box won't fit behind the backseat of a regular cab. lanzar makes some good cheap amps that you might want to consider for what ever you get. as to what sub and box? hmm probably 2 10's would work. then you have to look for the boxes...... probably hatchback would work for you. something like this

http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...ore=&catid=375

you could get a decent lanzar amp for about $90 and i can vouch that it will sound good. now if your willing to spend even more money that opens up new windows, how much are you willing to spend?

If you can afford it, try out JLAudio 8" (2 if you can). They sound really deep and solid and they don't take very much space at all. I had 2 W0 8" (I don't think they make that model anymore, but the new ones are even better) and everyone who heard them couldn't beleive they were 8's.

I saw a Rockford Fosgate 10" Punch sub on ebay and the specs said the optimum sealed box size is .75 cu ft. I found a calculator and with the way i have it thought out I will have .83 cu ft. Does this sound right? What does porting do and could I do it with the set up I have so far?

Porting requires a bigger box and very precise length/position of the port, so stay away from that if space is a concern. A simple sealed box is what you want, filling it about 1/3 full of pillow stuffing will help. Just an idea, have you thought about a Bazooka tube? If you can find a blown out tube, just replace the sub with your favorite sub and it will sound awesome. (The Bazooka is a ported enclosure, but all the calculations for the port and volume are already figured out)

The JL 10W1 is a good little sub for a sealed box... and JL recommends 0.75 cubic feet, which is about the amount of space you're got. Only problem is that it's discontinued. I've tried a RF Punch sub but the 10W1 goes deeper and sounds better to me.

you can get separate truck boxes, and put a 10" or a 12" in each box depending on the airspace needed. Another option is to make your own box, with the measurements you need, a little more involved but well worth the effort. I have an '03 F-250 CC, I went with the first route. Pics in my gallery.

I just put bucket seats in my 95 and built a box to fit in the middle btwn the 2 seats. The box is about the size you were thinking and with that infinity in there and the rockford 301s it provides plenty of bump and no loss of room

Elemental Designs 10k. 1/2 cube with half a pound of polyfil and you're ready to go. It sounded great in my Ranger...They are on clearance since the newer models are soon to be released. If ya' go to audiohole.com, there should still be a few left. Should run you around $90.

It has far greater linear output than either the RF or JL listed above...and likes a smaller box

Mephis HPO 10" will pound in 1/2 ft3 sealed box. I used to do boxes in the SuperCrews -w- 4 10's. They rocked. Not cheap, but they will pound.
