I stopped by the machinist shop where they have had my flattie 8 for about a year AND THEY STARTED WORKING ON IT about two weeks ago.... The front and rear main bearings were dry and he's not sure why and he said that the crank didn't "sing" when he thumped it, and he's not sure why either. He said it looks good and he can't see anything wrong, but it has a thump to it. He said he would know more by the end of the week. We will have to sleeve one cylinder and he will have the cam out today.
FINALLY... woo hoo.... I'm cited.
Not that I'm ready for the engine or anything... I'm just geeked about my flattie.
Sweet, I'm hoping to get mine in sometime this year as well for its rebuild. Then I will be doing the same thing "building the truck around it" I think it will help with my motivation or lack of motivation (depending on the week) lol
was looking at the beast last night, hopin to get to start it soon..
wiring, and then fluids everywhere.. engine, tranny, PS, brake master.
ugh.. what a pain.. gotta take the darned header off again to get to the fuel line in the chassis to replace the aluminum with stainless.. and rerun the wires to the starter.. what a pita..
Be sure they drill out the crank plugs and scrape out the decades old hardened sludge. My shop didn't do that, but I did it before assembly. You will be surprised how much gunk gets slung into those and sets up over the years. I spent a long time with wire hangers, brushes, etc to get it all out, then tapped the holes and put pipe plugs back in. If you love your flatty, you'll do it. This is just a little from one of the plugs (I think there's 3 total, maybe 4).
