I have a 2000 Ranger XLT Extended cab. I want a good place to put some subs that will still give me quite a bit of space in the cab. I haven't yet bought my subs so if you have any ideas please tell me ASAP. thanks Daniel
if i were you i would go with a single 10 in a saled hatch box, just sit it on one side of the cab and you can still use 3/4 of the room in the extended cab area
Any 10" or greater sub with a decent amount of throw will fill your cabin up with hard hitting, clean bass. To save room, build a downfiring, sealed enclosure that straddles the trans. hump. This allows those jumpleats (yuckie!) to still "function" as Ford intended them to.
The Adire Audio Koda 10" sub looks great. High throw, very efficient (so you don't have to make any upgrades to your elec. system...and you can save money by getting a smallish amp) sub that exhibits the least distortion of almost any 10" sub on the market. It will run ya' a little over $200.
Cheaper subs by JL (W3v2), Alpine (Type R), or Image Dynamics (IDQ) will also work out great.
Thanks everyone! I have another question. Say I want to put 2 15's or whatever in the bed of my truck because I will be buying a bed cover, would it be very difficult and confusing to do this? And if you think I could do it do you have any recommendations on how to do it? I'm not really sure if I want to put them in the back because after the tornado we had in Central Illinois Monday night I might want to be able to carry brush in the bed. Tell me your ideas and what you would do. Thank ya *Daniel*
I've got a single 10" under the passenger jump seat in my 98 Supercab. Sounds awesome. 2 15's in the bed? You'll want a shell to keep owning them and to avoid noise ordinance tickets.
What you want is called a "blow through", or "cut through". Go to some shops and get some quotes. Basically what they do is put on a "boot" between the bed of the truck and the cabin. Somewhat common, actually.
I think when I get around to putting a system in my 98 Ranger supercab, I'll build (or have built) a custom enclosure. Basicly, it will replace the center console between my bucket seats. It'll hold a 10" Solo-baric or JLAudio sub in it, and probably have to face to the side. The console will still hold cup holders, and will probably run all the way up to the dash, similar to what you can find in Explorers. Of course it will all be fiberglass... I'd also like to to be able to hold the amplifier in it. The 10" Solobarics are a good canidate because they sound good, and require a small box when it's sealed.
You won't be able to see the sub when you look in the window, and it won't take up any additional area inside. And, by the way, a good 10" sub in a small Ranger will sound good and be VERY loud. My stepbrother had a 10" in his supercab Ranger and it was louder than other people with 2-12's in a car. Enjoy
