Newbie here. Just got a 1968 F100 2wd. 360 eng. Know chevies but this is my first Ford to play with. Can I ID the tranny from just looking at it? Pan configuration or something? A/T 3spd
Actually I have never heard of a c4 fitting behind a fe motor.
FE motor got c6
windsors mostly a c4 but some have c6
351m/400 mostly c6 with some (rare) have c4
inline six mostly c4 but some have c6
429/460s got c6
C6s only only bolt to one engine family because the bellhousing is solid. Meaning a c6 off a fe won't fit on a 400 and vice versa.
Just to make sure it is a C6 peek under and see if the case is one solid aluminum piece. If so it is a C6. I think I have heard of Ford-O-matics being used behind FE's. And with a 2wd F-100, it could be possible behind a 360. I don't know much about the Ford-O-Matic transmission though. I used to think it was just a cool name for the FMX but I don't know if that is true.
