Question BD Short Shift Kit for 6 speed...

Anybody tried one of these? I understand how they work, I'm just a little curious if it's worth the money. I have found that to be one of the biggest drawbacks on the line against another truck is the long throw of the shifter. Any input?

Thanks
Terry

Well, in my BMW it was some what easy, but I have no idea how it would be for our trucks.

Got a link to it?

Yeti,

Check my gallery, I'm uploading it now, so it should be there. It looks pretty straight forward, just take the old shift lever off and open the top of the tranny up and installed the new shift link, and put everything back together. I've never done that before so I could be way off.

Looks easy enough, as long as you can get to the top of the tranny, and have the room you need.

How much are they?
What percentage does it say it will reduce your throw by?

The one's for Dodge and Chevy are 255, but the one for us is 280 I believe. It doesn't give a percentage of how much it reduces the throw, but I'm going to call them later today when I get a chance and see what info they can give me. There is a post on the BD Ford forum from a guy who has one installed and he said it's really nice and easy to install. I drive 43 miles to work in some pretty nasty traffic so if it reduces the PITA of shifting even by a little bit I'll be happy.

I live about 20 mins. from the BD factory and just got off the phone with them. I'll pick mine up this afternoon and install tomorrow morning. Will report back on how the install goes. BD told me $290 US.

COOL! Please do let us know how it goes and how you like it. I'm putting serious thought into getting this in the next week or so.

Thanks!

Piece of cake to do guys. Hardest part is getting the T40 torx screws out that hold the shift handle to the tower shaft. I scrapped these and tapped the T40 metric threads out to 5/16NC threads and used hex head grade 5 bolts. Much easier to put back together. I originally had a lot of slop in my shifter. I now have virtually none and a very nice close shift pattern. I noticed that Ford's shift handle is connected to the handle base with a rubber insulator that allows some handle flex. Might look at replacing handle with something more solid. Driving/shifting is much easier and it is a close pattern now. Handle movement seems reduced by almost a third but part of that is the slop that I lost. Feels 100% improvemnt. Took me about 40 mins to complete but I haven't yet reinstalled boot. I want to drive it a couple of days to work to watch for any oil leaks although I used a good RTV sealer for the tower flanges. Parts seem high quality and includes everything except RTV sealer.
