shimmy while braking

Begging your help...
My 2002 250 Superduty has this re-occuring shimmy problem.
The dealer says its a rotor out of line... they've "worked" it and it was somewhat better for about 2000 miles.
The shimmy has re-surfaced again with a vengence! it causes the steering wheel to shimmy violently if only for an inch or two...
Should I buy new rotors, brakes etc, if so.. what would be the best for durability.

I feel that the dealer hasnt addressed this problem.. or is it my problem?
My truck only has 23,000 miles as of May 1 2004.
When I took it in before, I even paid to have the alignment checked... it was within factory specs!

I live in Kodiak Alaska, lotsa salt air, rain, gritty granite dust...

Thanks for taking time to help!
Ted

Most likely your rotors were warped when you took it to the dealer - and it sounds like they turned them down. Which is the WORST thing you can do for warped rotors on a heavy truck - makes them prone to warping again even faster. They took the cheapy way out!! If you're still under warranty - hang yea take it back and get 'em to fix it!! Don't spend your money until you have to. I think this is a common problem with the superduties so there are quite a few upgrades as far as rotors that are available!!

I would insist that they replace the rotors. I'm sure that the dealer is just trying to avoid paying the money for new parts.

Thanks Guys...
I am sure the truck is still under warranty...
By the way... should I decide to buy new rotors and brakes etc... any suggestions as to which would be the best?
I am sure the OEM rotors and brakes are amongst the cheapest possible?
Thanks again,
Ted

Oh boy, do a search about brakes.
Been hashed out over and over.

Personally. i would play hardball with dealer and try to get new rotors that way 1st.
Milk your $$ worth if you can.
Oh, there is a link for Carolina clutch at the top of the page.
They have upgraded brakes and help sponsor the site.
Only for 4x4 though.

What do u mean by shimmy???? I have an 02 250 and when I hit my brakes the truck goes to the left. And I mean it goes. If I hit them goin at a good speed the truck swings to the left while my rear seems to go to the right(maybe str8), but I feel like I'm gonna spin out to the left.

Hey Belz
The shimmy I am talking about is a moderate shaking of the entire truck each time I apply brakes.. It does this at any speed, but is worse when at higher speeds

I am guessing that your pulling to the left is a result of mis-alignment, but I dont know!

I had the same thing with my F250 SD when I bought it used. I went to the brake shop assuming I would be buying new rotors ($110.00 a piece!). Turns out one rotor had developed some rust on it from sitting in the lot. Yahoo! Turned rotors new pads $130.00 and I was out of there!

I'll bet a dime to a donut that the shimmy is the rotors warping...
your parts changer didn't torque the rotors properly...
The rotor warping is common if the rotors are not tightened properly and in the proper order incrementally!

the correct torque is in the 145 to 155 lb range...
I had new rotors put on by the ford dealer under warranty and have not had another problem...

There is no doubt that it is the rotor and it is warped. This has been a long running problem with fords, and I have had a hard time getting dealers to agree to replace rotors. They contend that the rotor is part of the normal wear parts of the brake system and isn't covered under the warranty. If I were you, I would try to find a more robust aftermarket upgrade.
