Ever since picking my truck up new I had exhaust coming in through the vents. First time I took it in (two weeks after I bought it) they gave me the song and dance about it being normal.

Then a month ago, I start hearing a hissing sound coming from the firewall drivers side. Smelled even more fumes on vent or A/C.

Then the hiss turned into a louder hiss and louder... I took it in and sure enough the flex coupler on the pipes from the exhaust manifold had a huge crack in it.

The replaced the whole assembly on both side to the turbo.

NO MORE EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CAB!!!! If you have the smell, it's almost certainly because of those coupler. Force them to look at them with a mirror. Soot will build up on the mirror in no time if you are leaking.

 

I took my truck in today. For the same smell. I have had the truck for a month now it is a 2004. I have 2000 miles on it and when I picked up the truck at 13 miles I smell the smell ever since. I hope that this works. Thanks for the info.

Mine also had the smell. Finally, on the third trip I took a copy of a thread from this site talking about the potential for cracked flex pipes. That is what they found was wrong and has been good ever since. Thanks to FTE

May I call you Bill If you continue to smell it when the tail pipe is downwind, you almost certainly have the issue I and others have had. They sent me away once because it wasn't bad enough for them to find. But when it totally cracked and start hissing and I was losing boost, they found it.

In a few days I will take it back when I have more time. I need the truck on the weekends to pull with.So I can not leave it very long.
