Question Warranty question?

Do you guys recommend the extended warranty for service or drivetrain? The truck is my 3rd vehicle so I only drive it on weekends maybe 8000 miles a year. any info would be great thanks crew!

I got a Premium extended warranty from Ford because of an issue. I would not pay for one. I would be betting the thing will break after the original 3yr/36000 mi warranty. Ford is betting it won't. It's your money. I wuld set that money aside in a interest bearing account of some type instead of letting the dealer or Ford do the same thing. Then draw out the money for repairs, if you need it.

How long do you plan on keeping it? I drove a Bronco for 18 years and 240000 miles and never paid for a repair that would be covered under an extended warranty.

Thats what I am wondering if it is just a waste to give them a few grand or just keep it myself and use it when needed! as for keeping it I plan to keep it for as long as possible as long as it stays relatively problem free.

Kind of off subject, but does address the cost/benefit of a warranty. I bought an Apple Powerbook computer a year and a half ago. The 3 year warranty would have cost $350. I figured the only part to break or go bad in the 2 years or so I planned on using it would be the battery, no problem $129. Well, I just sunk $370 into a new DVD-R/CD-RW drive for it last week. Spent more than the warranty amount and I'll have to probably look forward to replacing the battery also in the future

The replacement/repair cost of a turbo or transmission could very well be more than the cost of the extended warranty. Some of the warranties have rental car coverage that add to the value also. Also remember that the dealership does have some room to negotiate the cost of the warranty. You can also buy the warranty from another dealership, see the New Buyer forum and read about warranties there. Jeff at VanBortel Ford, one of the sponsers of this site, can possibly hook you up with a good deal.

Normally I would say no. The extended warranty was considered no worth the extra cost (60 minutes or some other show I think I saw it on). Most of the engine is cover to 100k miles/6 yrs and the other parts are 36K/3 yrs. The transmissions should be covered already.

If they didn't make money off extended warranties, they wouldn't sell them.

The new truck also have so many complicated electronics and power features that could present expensive repairs after the base warranty is expired and would not be covered by the powertrain warranty. I look at my power moon roof and think to myself how many things could go wrong with it. I would hate to see that repair bill or replacement cost.

I am leaning towards just putting that money in my savings and if I need it just pay cash for the repairs. Good or bad idea? i have nixed the service warranty I think it is a waste. Now I know the engine is covered for 5/100,000 miles what about the tranny?
