More on tuners

I was speaking with the Ford diesel tech and I asked him what his personal (take off his Ford hat) opinion on tuners and chips. He drives a 7.3 and said he uses a Superchips tuner.

He for the 6.0 he liked the Predator because it was a tuner and had the diagnostic capabilities.

He said he saw some problems with the one of the brands of chips (Do I dare say which one?) and was going to encourage the dealership to stop selling it.

Since Ford does not endorse aftermarket tuners or chips, the tech's comments would only be his own feeling and conclusions. No different than you or I expressing our views, so everyone would have to take them with a grain of salt. I feel that you would be alright saying which one he saw problems with, as long as you stated what problems he was seeing, not just a blanket statement about problems. On the other hand, secondhand information is sometimes incorrect or loses some important information in the process. Remember the "telephone" game you may have played as a child, whisper something to the person next to you, then they whisper it to the next, and so on. When the whisper returns to the original person it is no where close to what it started as!

Like I said in my post "his personal (take off his Ford hat) opinion". I didn't mean it as gospel. I just thought it was interesting. I too, took it with a grain of salt, but he is a certified diesel tech in a large shop and according to the Ford engineers I talked to, held all the certifications you can get. He also drives a 7.3 diesel. All that is a heck of a lot more knowledge than I have.

Yes. I drive in Level 3 with low boost fueling at level 1. It shifts great and most of the time no defueling due to high EGTs. At level 4 or 5 you will get a lot of defueling when passing and at other WOT situations so I do now like the way it drives in those levels. I gained about 1mpg overall.

What does defueling and EGT's have to do with each other? I was not aware the torque-shift tranny was like the Allison and had defuels before shifts. And if I'm also not mistak'en I beleive that Power Edge recommends leaving defuels on at all shifts for transmission safety. I've had great luck with my Juice/Attitude combo but don't drive a 6.0 so I can't speak of performance in that vehicle...
