overheating but not using a chip\tuner?

How many of you who are not using a chip or a tuner have had a over heating problem with coolant spitting out.

I brought mine in today to the dealer with my boat and we did a test drive. He told me that he has never seen an f350 6.0 come in with a blown head gasket that wasn't using a chip or a tuner.

So again, who of you have had this problem that arn't using a chip or tuner. I would like to take a print of of some responses to the dealer and show him that it is happening to others.

PS. Waiting to hear back from the dealer, the Tech said he had to call Ford and see what they wanted to do.

Just to let you know, Ford said that I do need a new head gasket. I cant upgrade the head bolts, have to use their stuff.

Anyone know if they have upgraded their head gasket and or head bolts?

My completely stock 2004 build F350 blew coolant once when I was towing last summer. Once they lowered the coolant level down to the min mark on the bottle, it hasn't done it since. Back last summer there were quite a few reports of blowing coolant if the bottle was too full. It seemed to work for me

tried that, didnt work.

Last summer I could smell coolant but never saw any signs of it untill the very end of boating season. Then I only saw a few spots under the hood.

This season my first trip to the river it blew pretty good.

Hope the new gasket helps.

Again, anyone know if they have upgraded the head bolts/ gasket?

BTW, its a $3000 job for those of you thinking of tuners/chips.

Tried half way, little above the low mark, at the low mark . Didnt make a difference.

When I went to Dealer, He filled it up to about 1/3 between low and high.

It's probably the head gaskets. My tech said he'd seen lots of signs of it when towing heavy loads. There are new design head gaskets out. There are ARP head bolts with about 160,000 psi tensile strength vs. the 145,000 ford bolts. There are supposed to be H-13's coming out soon, but at 700 per set that's kinda expensive for the average Joe. I think they're good to 300K tensile??? maybe 200K. gettin old I don't remember so well anymore.

they're replacing the head gasket next week.

I asked if I could provide better bolts but was told
they have to use the Ford approved bolts.

Is there anyone who was able to supply the better bolts when it was done through warranty.

As a note, the tech told me
Ford is even starting to look at people who have put on aftermarket grills, and if they reduce the airflow they might void a warranty problem if could've caused a the problem. They're starting to crack down on any add on's.

jcd,

It's actually a lot more common that Ford wants you to think. Check in with the diesel tech (if he'll tell you the true info) at most dealerships that do a lot of diesel repair and service.

It was the diesel tech I was talking too. We went for about a 45 min. test ride with his computer and guage hooked up to my truck. Took it up over a mountain pass. We talked alot.

I'm just a hair under the H, just barely in the normal range. No Mods. Always happens when towing over 10k lbs. No coolant puking though.

04 F350 CC LB 4x4 6.0, pukes coolant when pulling a heavy load up a grade. Had it checked out at dealer last summer and again this spring with no finding.

My brothers 03 overheated last year, towing 12,000 lbs. while it was 109 degrees out side. He took his truck to the dealer and they found nothing but they said they could put a little(black box) or something, to monitor it the next time he towed. I spend most of my summer in Lake Havasu, always over 100 and I've never experienced any overheating. Ford tests there trucks about 40 miles north east of Lake Havasu, at one of there proving grounds, all sumer long,so the trucks should be able to handle the heat.
