Our dealer fixed a exhaust leak, and upgraded the PCM at the same time. Now there is a horrible turbo whine at all rpms whenever accelerator pedal is pressed at all. (Migraine quality whine. This is not a normal turbo whine, it is a very shrill and constant whine that sounds like a turbine engine is running!)
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

 

First question. What did the dealer say?

 

They assumed it was a result of the PCM upgrade. They kept the truck to look at it some more - don't think they had experienced this problem before, though.

 

They assumed.........well says they really know what they are doing........ug......
Find a different dealer

 

It is NOT normal. Don't let them tell you that. Tell them to go start up some on the lot and listen to them.

 

Did your dealer replace the down pipe..... If so the might have put on the wrong part#
(no resonator)

 

Okay, we found out they DID replace the down pipe, and yes, they apparently put one on without a resonator. But now they say that Ford no longer makes the 2003 down pipes WITH the resonator. Anybody know anything about this?

 

Never mind, NOW they tell us that they replaced the left turbo inlet pipe, and NOT the down pipe. I think our best bet may be to take it to another dealer and see if they can do anything. We'd still appreciate any information anyone has. THANKS!

Check the DP to see if it is smooth and round or wrinkled looking. Not positive as I have an '04 but from what I have read on this site, the '03 had a resonator and was kind of wrinkled in the bends, not smooth radiused curves. Anyone please correct if I'm wrong, or right,for that matter.

 

If the dp has foil looking stuff on it, it has a resonator and is a 03

 

The resonator is VERY obvious. If the downpipe was a snake, than the resonator would look like the snake had swallowed a fat cat.
