Attatching accelerator cable to pedal?

My accelerator/throttle cable somehow came loose from my gas pedal, I've tried pushing the spring on the throttle body forward and wedging the spring/cable into the pedal as much as I can but every time I pull the throttle body spring back the cable comes loose from the pedal. Are there some type of retaining clips that have broken loose that I am missing? I've felt around on the back of the pedal and can't seem to find anything the cable would snap into or attatch to to keep it in place. I can stuff the spring under the metal projection(not part of the pedal) that comes out of the wall of the truck but everytime I pull the throttle body back into place it pulls the cable right out of place so that it's dangling loose again. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've struggled with this thing for a long time and just can't get it to stay in place..tried zip ties but it always seems to slide out.

Thanks,
Ray

The cable should have a little metal ball on the end, is that missing?

Throttle Cable

It has a metal cap on the end of the cable, it's not really much bigger than the cable's own thickness though, does that cap slide under something or into something that prevents the cable from detatching?

On my 2000 the cable comes through the firewall, goes through the pedal, then there's a green plastic thing with a spring around it and the cable comes out the other end of the green thingy and the cable has a piece of metal that looks like a cylinder, about 1/4" long and 3/16" in diameter. The hole in the green thing is smaller than the cylinder and that stops the cable from slipping through.

Cable

Does the cable go through a hole in the pedal? I have the spring on my cable as well but currently my cable isn't attatched to the pedal, I'm not sure how or where it attatches, I don't see a obvious hole or clip...my cable has the cap on the end like yours so it won't go through the spring. Does your cable extend to the bottom right near where the foot pedal is?

The cable goes through a hole in the pedal but the green thingy keeps it from slipping out. I can take a pic if you want.

Throttle Cable

That'd be really great if you could take the picture, I'm trying to get this thing back in good shape. Need to get the throttle problem fixed so I can check the codes on the vehicle and start tuning it up.

Here's a pic of my connection, remember I have a 2000, not sure of your year. Disregard the washers by the yellow mark, there just there to take up slack, there not stock.
