throttle cable

I am wondering if it is possible for my throttle cable to stretch over time. I ave about 3/8 of an inch that my cable can be pulled through the top arm of my pedal. It seems like I can't push my pedal all the way bc of this.

85 grey, mine on my truck is the same way. put a new cable on mine couple weeks ago. as far as i know when you unhook from ip pump you have to push some cable back a little to get it hooked, if not it would be gettin hung up on the end. unhook it under the hood and hook it back, you,ll see what i mean

mine was like that too. I took some very small rubber hose, pulled the slack out down at the pedal and clamped the rubber hose on to keep the slack pulled out. I dont think i was getting all the throttle possible with the stretched cable, and the hose and clamp solved that.....someday ill jus replace the damn cable lol. If anything, it makes the pedal sit up a lil higher

I stumbled upon a thread where someone had asked the same thing a few years ago when I was driving my 94 ranger. The thought was that yes cables stretch over time. The quick cheap solution was to add one or more zip ties pulled all the way tight next to the crimped on metal stop. Basically the same idea johnboggs21 did.
After reading the thread, I tried it on my ranger and noticed a slight improvement. Haven't really thought about it on the F250, but do remember thinking there was some slack there. Maybe I'll try it and see.

Option 2.

Pull the bolts out of the throttle mounting plate.

A stack of fender washers between the plate and firewall on each of the bolts does a nice job as a spacer.

I just replaced my throttle cable last week. I purchased a pioneer brand replacement from Auto Zone for about 25 bucks if I remember correctly. The new cable was a big improvement but it still had a lot of slack. Even with the new cable I found myself holding the pedal on the floor with all my might. I ended up using 3 zip ties on the pedal end to take up some slack. I could easily add another one but I am afraid I might run out of cable before the pedal hits the floor. So be careful not to take out to much slack or you may end up stretching or breaking the cable.
