The problem I face is that the throttle return springs on the carb are not closing it enough, the engine tends to race. I can't seem to figure out the proper way to mount the carb so that the throttle cable has the least number of bends in it, reducing friction.
Could someone explain how they got an aftermarket throttle cable kit working with the stock pedal assembly, cleared the valve cover, and still had the throttle cable springs on the carb have enough force to shut the carb and return the throttle pedal to the proper position?
My friend recommended replacing the entire throttle pedal assembly with something similiar to the bent arm in the jeep, and have the cable go through the firewall, but I'm on a limitted budget now, and need to figure out something with the pedal rod that goes through the firewall and mounting point as they sit.
Pics would be VERY appreciated if someone has a similiar setup.
It isn't so much the spring (I'm running 2 as well). It is the angle the throttle cable meets the arm of the throttle pedal on the engine side of the firewall. I think I solved my problem though, just have to order a different throttle pedal assembly.
