I sawed off my mufflers and now im running stock y pipe/stock manifolds and 2 1/2 in pipe and an x pipe...w/ turndowns...its loud as a freggin airplane....im wondering if it will hurt anything besides my ear drums?? its true duals, i was wondering what would muffler setup sound kick a$$ on there...........
i had flowmasters on it before....flow 40's....i might go with one dual in/out ....just to be something diff....hows the sound outta those u know? Im curious to see if anyone has this setup.....Its just wicked loud, i might run them out back with some big tips...or might just throw on some glasspacks.....
ford5.8: thx man...going to my muffler shop on mon. to get it hook up...im thinking about putting some glasspacks on and get it out behind the rear tire....if i put in out in front of the tire it may be too loud for me.....im not sure what size it is, but theres a vehicle on exhaustsoundclips.com with cherry bombs on it...sounds pretty good...think its an f-150....considering i have no cats and an x pipe it should sound pretty sweet u think??
solid: Im not sure about the gas milage on muff vs no muff...all i know is its damn loud...and actually i got more hp with no muff.....i said screw it, im going to put both FM 40's back on, cuz i love that sound too much....going to put on headers soon....so i should be more than satisifed with it
Solid, The mileage stuff comes down to pretty much a question of how much overlap your camshaft has. Assuming a straight pipe has better scavenging effect than the FMs it's, and if your cam holds the exhaust valve open a little too long while the intake valve is opening, there's a possibility that the raw air fuel mixture will flow directly from the intake out of the exhaust resulting in lower efficiency and mpg. I believe this is the case on an 84 F-150 we have with a 302 and Comp cam. We replaced some fairly restrictive turbo style mufflers with dual FMs and the mileage dropped slightly. The power and sound are much, much nicer though....so the .5-1 mpg decrease isn't minded.
I didn't have this problem on my '94 lightning when I installed dual 40 series FMs with factory cats. I'm just ready to get rid of the cats now. God bless S.C. 's non-existent vehicle inspections!
What kinda of sound are you looking for? Typically I don't like junkmaster because they sound like a car muffler and they don't really have the deep sound I like. I went with some dynomax super turbo's and it sounds like an old muscle car. I really like it and it makes my truck sound like a truck. I have some sound clips if you are interested. Gimme a shout.
