I know that much has been said about the Ypipe and it's poor design. I know that Banks, among others offers a redesigned pipe. My question is...why can't you just get dual exhaust installed and be done with the Ypipe entirely? Has anyone done this? Why can't you come directly from the headers and go straight back with muffler and cat?
can that be done, have the muffler shop fab a new y pipe. I looked at mine on my 99 f250 and on the passenger side the y pipe comes down and then the darn thing turns forward again and then goes back. This has to be resrtictive. I think I will have my local muffler shop do some fabricating.
I think the biggest problem you'll see with a true dual setup is the horrible noise. Loud, raspy roar, indy car like. The V10 does not have a nice V8 rumble.
One last question. Does the computer need to be changed after modifying the ypipe? I know that when the original pipe was replaced by Ford because of the "pinging" they changed the computer settings.
Nick, did you notice any improvements after the Y pipe fix? Also, from the pictures it looks as though one of the bank pipes runs into the other at a 90 degree angle? Probably just a picture illusion. Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about getting this done in the next couple of weeks along with a flowmaster 40 single pipe.
I did notice some improvements in gas milage and the truck does seem a little more snappy. As far as the computer goes,i never reset it and everything seems to be fine.In the summer on the hiway doing 70mph and taking it easy im getting 15 to 16mpg.I also have a fm40 and k+n filter. In a nutshell im happy for short money.
Well that about covers it for me. Already have the insert K&N just have to get the Ypipe done and FM40. Maybe switch to the FIPK later. Thanks for the info Nick!!
