It's finally done!
I installed one on the factory DVD players (purchased off of e-bay) in my 02 X, it works great just as the owners manual states. I had to make my own harness, but was able to figure out the proper connections with my 02 factory manual *Key point, this factory DVD player will only operate (without an FM moulator) with the 03 6 Disc radio (it has the DVD software) so if you have the CD/Cassette radio you will have to upgrade. It required:
1. homemade harness
2. factory overhead bracket (purcahsed at a Ford Dealer)
3. the proper radio
4. headliner modifications
and a lot of patience
Thanks for all the feed back
Happy as a clam in _ _ _ _! ( not as happy as my kids)
On the rear climate controls, did you have to extend the wires or did it they reach to the left ok? Also, I got the CD 6 in my 02 X. Would you think that the DVD software would be in the 02 6 disk radio? One more question. Can the system be heard through all of the speakers or just in the rear? Thanks for the posts.
I had to detatch the harness for the A/C controls and move it so it would reach the A/C controls that are now on the left (instead of the middle), actually at that point when I saw it wouldn't reach I ripped it off its retainers, however I would suggest you carefully detatch it move it, and resecure it. I would assume the software is in the the CD player (as long as its a 6 disc CD player). At worst you may have to upgrade to an 03 player. The sound is awsome - just like a stereo surround theater. It works just like the owners manual says. If you put it on dual mode you can plug in the headphones for the kids in back while you still listen to the stereo.
I need to find where the DVD bracket can be found(PN 2C7Z-78519K22-AA) . Ford Parts Program for employees haven't stocked them in weeks. The guys ther aren't sure when they will stock more. Are they gone for good. This will be my decision on whether I get rid of the OEM and go with aftermarket. Any help locating this would be great.
OK, if anyone knows or is reading this. On the homemade harness, I want to run the #1-power wire pin from the DVD player to the radio, instead of running the wire to the back of the radio could it be ran to the overhead temp/mpg/miles to empty display? How about the #2 accessory wire? If so, then I only need to run a set of RCA's to the input converter.
