It was used to pull our car hauler and did so with average 9-10K trailer and load weight for about 65K of the miles I've put on. Sorry you are having trouble with yours snapper, I hope you are able to get them resolved satisfactorily.

looks like snappers last post on this thread was 5-19-09...I sure hope he`s not still having problems

For what it's worth my 2000 F250 V10 purrs like a kitten... a really LARGE kitten, but purrs just the same. I have changed the plugs and coil over coils ( the best ones I've used so far were made by ACCEl and I got them from Summit.

Since this thread was brought back from the past, Ill share my V10 story. It was a 2000 F350 V10, 2wd Crew Cab, Long box with 150,000 miles on it. It was a railway truck since new and I bought it fully equipped with all the railway equipment including the track wheels/axle assembly's. I had my doubts about the truck since it was only 4,000.00. I began removing all the railway junk and cutting back all the wiring under the dash I found the idle hour meter. At just over 12,000 hours of idling, PTO operation and hard use the truck seemed to run well. Ford justifies 1 hour of idling equivalnt to 35 miles of street driving. so at 12,000 idle hours *35 is 420,000 miles worth of wear and tear on the motor. Add the 150,000 the truck had and it comes out to, 570,000 miles technically on the truck, I know they were not easy miles. I only had it a short time before a piston slap began from all the idling/hard use. I would buy another one hands down! at almost 600,000 miles it would still get sideways when you held it to the floor! A well maintained modular motor like the V10, 5.4, and the 4.6 will go well over 300,000 miles. The 4.6 is the base for the modular platform, the 5.4 being a larger version of the 4.6. The V10 is a 5.4 with two cylinders added to the back of the motor. As long as its kept up the motor is nothing to worry about!

I have two v10s one in an F250 and the other in an excursion. My F250 has 276k miles and my excursion has 175k. Both run excellent and I run only synthetic fluids in them and take good care of them and maintain them well. They both run excellent and don't seem down on power what-so-ever. People ask me all the time how many miles I have on my truck and I ask them to take a wild guess. They guess about 80-120k and then I point at the dash

I plan on running the wheels off of them and then eventually trading up to a new powerstroke

2007 V-10 here with 189,000. Still running good, but I think she
might be getting a little tired. I was pulling an 11,000 lb skid-loader
on a 2000 lb trailer last week and it did'nt have alot of ***** on the hills.
I have the 6-speed manual tranny on it.
I've been using amsoil motor oil every 5000.
Very happy with it so far.
Under the hood repairs have been an alternator
and battery, knock on wood.

My V-10 mileages . . . .

Had my sessions with the diesel stuff and swore never to go back.

So I bought a new 2000 F350 Crew Cab with the V-10 that I drove for work and pull my dragster trailer.

497,000 on it when I sold it to a guy to pull his race car . . . . , still ginnin'!!

Bought a 2008 DRW Crew Cab, also with the V-10, 326,000 on it and it is hooked to my current race trailer!!

I used QS 10-30 with a bottle of STP in the 2000 until I switched to Brad Penn Race Oil at 340,000. Still using the Brad Penn / STP in my 2008 . . .

Absolutely the best motor life I could have ever hoped for . . . .

Now these are some impressive miles on the trucks. Congrats, V10 motors are some good work horses.

This thread was a good read I'm glad I did..

My misinformed opinion of the V10 has been changed for the better !! Going to look at a used SD w/V10 later this AM...After digging into threads on various sites regarding PSD's I decided I'd rather not fool with a diesel I get enough diesel every day of the week anyway..

If this V10 is based off the 5.4L like I read, it should be a good motor..I've had 3 F150's all with the 5.4L never had a bit of trouble with any of them....After the initial break in Amsoil all the way..

Take some time and back track through the V10 forum and read about the engine. The only real issue with the V10 is it drinks fuel, but if you want the power, pay to play.

LOL..

My other vehichle, the daily driver, is an Audi S4 so I'm familiar with pay to play and I'm paying a lot for that car...

I recently sold my Audi A6 - I had A LOT OF FUN WITH THAT CAR - the girls liked it too! I really loved it!

However, though the normal maintenance issues never cost more than I expected (I have a great german auto mechanic) once the tranny issues crept up (at 130k and then again at 160k) I was really fed up and got rid of it. I can hope and pray that you aren't cursed with the transmission issues that I was. The thing with the Audi's is they run fabulous, but the tranny's are inherently touchy when you get over 100k, and they require alot of time and shipping computers etc back and forth.

On the opposite side I have F350 and F150 trucks, the latter with over 340k miles on it, and trans are great....

Bummer

Well I looked at the SD for all of about 5 minutes...It had 148k on the clock which didn't worry me much because it wouldn't have been a DD anyway...The interior could have used a good cleaning but didn't appear damaged..The trailer brake controller or whatever that is called was gone all that was left was a harness so I'm fairly confident its done some towing..

Exterior had some minor surface rust but nothing major I'm not looking for a show truck...What killed it was what was under the soft tonneau cover, and it wasn't good..The bed was completly rusted thru in a couple places I could see the parking lot !!

Oh well I'm in no real rush so the search continues..

Here is the link to it..
