Overdrive??
I have a 93 F250 7.3L w/ auto E4OD.
Everybody says don't haul in overdrive.
My question is why?
Is it becausethe transmission temps get to high?
What’s considered to high?
If I added a heavy duty transmission
cooler a mag-hytec pan and a
temp gauge, would I then be able to
haul in overdrive?
Also how do you tell if you have a
super duty?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Gr8ride

Ford says you can tow in overdrive. It's in the owner's manual.

I tow all the time in OD unless she starts hunting for gears, then either back off the throttle of drop down a gear to stop the hunting. The hunting will generate a lot of heat. I tow a 4000lb boat and a 9000lb TT (not at same time) and I just put it OD and go. I have put 100k miles on my E4OD. Just run a aux trans cooler, or as I do couple it with a aux trans filter set up.
