I need a diagram or some info on how to reinstall the manual shifter on the steering column for a 1966 Ford F-100. I think I have it but when I go to put the column back in I lose 2nd and 3rd gears. Any help on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Thank you Mark Dyer (ffautoclub)
Make sure the column is turned correctly. It should fall in to a notch of some sort. I had the same problem but if you turn it just a little in one direction, you should be able to feel it fall into the notch. Could be something else but this worked for me.
Posted earlier regarding 'steering column'. Intend to replace column bearings within next couple of days. If you have not gotten the problems solved i can post on how the column shift is set up. May want to disconnect the shifting forks and see if the problem is in the column. Getting the shifting levers crossed could cause a problem.
Disassembled column shift sometime back. If recall, the shifting tube is notched and aligns shifting arms, with the shifting lever. Could be mistaken. Suffer from short and long term memory loss. If weather permits intend to take my column apart tomorrow. Suspect you will get additional info. and suggestions before then.
