What are the benefits of installing a Accel Super coil, actual description is "Brute thunder for your HEI Ford 84-98, EEC-IV computer controlled ignition. I just had a major tuneup (plugs, wires, cap and rotor, PVC) done to my 96 EB. This replacement seems very straight forward, in-expensive mod, remove, replace, reattached cables. I'mwondering if I'd get any thing out of replacing OEM one.
TIA

you'll get alittle better spark at the plug which will make the motor more eficent which means maybe a tad more hp, but the coil by it self on a stock motor wont make hardly a noticable difference, there worth the money, but i would worry about the increasing your intake and exhaust flow first. DW
I had a mechanic test my accel and it came out horrible. I took my truck to a mechanic for some ignition problems(with a week old accel super coil) he tested right in front of me and the results were crazy, the volts(or whatever i.e. amps ohms.....)were half of the new oem coil he put in. I will now only go with oem or MSD.
I wouldnt condem accel for that, you can get a bad anything, my wife & I went and test drove a brand new T-Bird and on the test drive it broke down, we wlked to a phone call the dealership and they sent a car for us and a tow truck for the Bird., needless to say we didt buy that car, but i dont hold it against ford. I have installed two Accel Coils: First a Super Coil (the big, heavy yellow one) in a 1982 Datsun 280, it worked rather well, increasing ignition power, acceleration and fuel economy. Then I installed another one, in my current vehicle, a 1992 Ford Bronco 300cid, inline 6 cyl. the super stock universal accel coil (stock size), which despite having lower voltage than the supercoil, works equally well achieving the above. It depens on your ignition system. I recommend high energy multispark ignitions to get best results. Get also 8.8mm ignition wires from accel, splitfire, etc.
