What to do?

I hate to see that the 6.0's are having so much problems because im a die hard Ford guy. This makes the Fords look bad. If Ford is having so many problems with the 6.0's then why dont they stop making them until they get the problem fixed. Its just like with any new motor,(Dodge, Chevy, or whatever) the first year or so the motor is made there is gonna be problems just until they get figured out. Ford better get off there A$$es and figure out this problem. They better get them as good or not better then the 7.3 which is a hell of a motor. My dad has a 99 F-350 7.3 and it has 189,000 miles on it. And there has not been a single thing wrong with the motor or tranny and thats no lie, it even have a 90 hp chip in it too. Runs like the day it came out of the factory. Here in a couple of years the 6.0 will be all worked out and will be the best diesel out there.

Just checked my build date is 3/04. Just to clarify if the tech said that the engine's optimum operating RPM is about 1800?

That's what the little pimple faced tech told my husband is that with the 6- speed manual that they don't perform til they' re at 1800 rpm's- so he's suppose to just keep his foot on the floor and shift I guess ( kind of like the old Detroit motors)- but they pretty much ran him out of the shop like usual- told him everything was in his head type thing

eternal optimists

04 king ranch loaded 4 dr 4x4, limped, moaned since day two from dealership, installed predator and improvement in power, tranny still balks, so far 21 cold starts, 4 wheel drive auto lockling hubs still do not lock, have to lock in manually, called fmc to elevated status with factory rep, no calls, 4 weeks, no calls from dealer, 6600 miles, 11/03 build date.
dealer says it's all in my mind, yet, I now have 6 witnesses as to 4x4 malfunctioning.
After 99,01 and now this, I hate ford MOtor co, they ripped me off on this junk truck that cost me 8,000 more than my 01, yet the 01 never went to the shop.
The real bummer is, the chevy duramax sucks even worse.

Oh you have the 6 spd manual. I have the 5 spd auto and it rarely hits 1500 rpm unless I floor it. It seems a bit sluggish but then I have not tried to push it. Being a granny driver I rarely feel the need to get anywhere fast.

Jollyroger - I have a fully loaded 04 kind ranch also. I guess I will have to test my 4x4 this weekend. What do you mean my limped and moaned? My F150 crewcab 4x4 seemed to have more power but I figured I was just getting used to the new truck and engine. Trying to be gentle on it until I hit 1k miles.

I've had my new six-oh for just over a month, and everything is holding up well. I've read all the horror stories, and I've spoke to dealer techs about it as well. Depending on the man questioned, there are between 100 and 150 improvements to the motor for 2004, including changes to the cams and the block.

I'm kinda new at this, but I know FTE has a 6.0 survey thread somewhere. I can't find it, but here's my info so far:

2004 6.0 PSD coupled to the 5-speed TorqShift
Chassis: 3/17/04
Engine: March 2004
Transmission: March 15, 2004

Miles on the Truck: 618
Fuel Mileage:
High - 19.8
Low - 16.2
Average - 17

My observations:
This truck is great! I've had absolutely no problems so far. I've checked the Oil every 200 miles due to 6.0L paranoia, and each time it's been clean, on the full line, and free of diesel fumes. I got the chance to test-drive a new 2003 6L due to my good connections to the local Ford Dealer, and at the time I didn't like the gas pedal feel. My '04 is much improved. I have yet to wipe the smile off my face. I really like the new TorqShift tranny as well.

I do 50 mile trips usually. I'll be doing 2500 mile trips with the 7000# Exiss in the early summer. I'll keep you posted for problems. This is a cross-country deal, too. I start from Philadelphia and go the southern route to Wickenburg.

I am thrilled so far. I've heard if there's any problems they usually show up before 3000 miles.
