e40d no forward gears

i have a 93 f150, today while towing a bobcat (7000lbs) up a long hill, the trans was in 2nd gear about 3000rpms, the truck reved like it went into nuetral and now has no forward gears but reverse still works. i dont think it would be the transfer case cause then it wouldnt move at all right? anyone have an idea what broke? why does it still have reverse?

Sounds like a rebuild is needed. Make sure the driveshaft is not spinning while in a foreward gear, if the pinion bearing goes, they can do not funky stuff like that.
