I have a 1997 ford ranger with 52000 miles on it. The truck runs great no problems uses hardly no oil. It has a automatic transmission and the other day I was driving to store and everything worked great all forward gears. But after I came out of the store no reverse. The truck still runs great in all forward gears but still no reverse any ideas. The fluid level ok and still has nice red tint to it no burning smell. Help would be appreciated. hopefully wont have to pull tranny aout
Well, assuming the linkage is properly adjusted, it sounds like a problem with the reverse band. Either it broke, the strut fell off or the servo blew. The band could be burned up and the fluid still look OK.
Try working the linkage to see if you can get it to engage. If not, pull the pan and see if you find clutch material or the band strut in the pan.
Ok everybody I took truck in and had codes pulled and the transmission had a p-1701 reverse malfunction code. I ask the guy what exactly it was he wouldnt tell me he just said it probably gonna cost around 300.00 to fix. Again i then stated does the tranny have to be pulled and he grinned and said its gonna cost aroud 300.00 dollars and thats about all I can tell ya. Any body Know what a p-1701 is Im thinking its got something to do with the valve body or a selonoid what do you think. please help Im pulling the pan off in moring myself. and taking a peak around any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated......
