I figuered I would start this thread after the queen said,YEAH,why dont you tell your buddies at FTE that you want to spend $350 on an engine.I said, they would think it was a good deal for a brand new engine. She replies, not after you tell them it is 10in long! So,let me explain.I love electric trains, always have.I have a train room that is 30ft long and 12ft wide.I prefer H.O. size and also incorperate H.O.car tracks into my layout.I have a digital timer built into a bank building(looks like the clocks you see at banks)so I can time laps when there is nobody to race against.when the trains are running,if you here the bells and the train horn, you had better stop or you will hit the train at the crossing.Rule 1 at my house is,if you hit the train, take out a dollar and deposit it in the bank.this is to help cover the cost of the custom lexan bodies that I put on my cars
I hand build all my cars and my layout has various cities and at least three trains running at the same time.So as you can see, this is not your average kids layout.Well I want a Rivarossi 3-truck steam locomotive that costs $350 and she seams to think I have lost it.Well considering that my H.O. cars cost me about $100 each to build,by comparison I think the price is not that bad.I even tried to reason with her saying, but I just bought you that fancy washing machine with cruise,air,tilt,etc.ooops.bad mistake there.I then said, well what about that brand new Kirby vacuum with the 8in lift, posi traction, and dual exhaust!Another ooops,She then states that unless that Rivarossi came with (certain adult features),I had better forget it.Fine.My other hobby is collecting ball caps,so I went and bought a new one.Which leads her to yell, you already have 300 ball caps, what the he## do you need with another one.I simply stated $10 Ford ball cap or $350 Rivarossi, which is it?She is happy now.Now all I have to do is figure a way to get my engine! But enough about me,what are your hobbies?

I fly high powered rockets. One 4 second burn can cost $400 or more in propellant alone. Because you need lots of room to fly big rockets, I usually have to drive hundreds of miles and stay in motels every time I attend a big launch. My favorite launch sites are in Upstate NY and Central Ohio. It's a great hobby. It's full of all sorts of people from computer geeks to doctors and everywhere in between. Since you're in Michigan, you may want to drop by one some time. It is a unique experience watching a 12' rocket weighing 70 pounds or more heading up 2 miles into the sky in a few seconds.
I also like to drag race with my son. I've found that cars put rockets to shame in the cost department.
Interesting! They sure didn't have digital accessories for HO trains when I was a kid. And 12' rockets? I'll bet homeland security is keeping an eye on those launches...
I like to ride stuff... street bike and snomobile are my favorite, but I also dirtbike a little. I also like to film short videos and produce DVD's. Great thread!
Ice sculpting, I think Ice sculpting is really cool.
Now ....about the queen.....
IMO,it is time for the big gun.
Mention to her that you thought you were a responsible Husband, didn't do Drugs,Smoked, Drank excessively & very responsible.
The very fact that you love to be around her & would like for her to join you in a Hobby.
Plus, Tell her that you respect so much that you would never consider putting a regular size train on the front yard.
Wow,I didn`t even know they made 12ft rockets,I have messed with the small ones a little, but that is kids stuff compared to what your talking.Got any pictures, and where do you launch them here?
And Mil1ion,how did you know that one of my dreams would be to put an actual caboose in my front yard?

I dont hae any cool hobies right now.....play on the comp, would say work on the cars/trucks, but dont have the money. I build model cars...I suck at it. I used to have the littel model rockets....I sucked at that....played baseball sucked at that....
KT, can you please post some pics of your trains and what not?
Pull out the model railroad magazines and show her the lost wax brass casting locos that START @ $1200. The $350 will look much better to her!
As for your layout, that sounds extremely cool! I love the idea of the trains as moving obstacles for the cars, and your timing system. Do you have operating sessions for the RR as well or just let 'em run? Any pictures anywhere on the web? Would love to see the layout.
How bad do you have it King?? A friend of mine would not run his trains until he put his Engineer's outfit on... He had his run around the basement and upstairs so his wife could put a drink on a flatcar.
I used to be big into O scale trains, lionel mostly. I still have them, but they are mostly put away. I have a few sets from the 50's, a set from the 30's, and a few newer sets.
My main hobby is classic cars. I have a 67 mustang, and I have my 86 F150 flareside that is my cool daily driver, and me and my dad work on hot rods. He's got a model A he's had sense the 60's and our next car is a 51 ford victoria 2 door hardtop. It will be a 50's style cruizer. We also have a 35 Ford convertible coupe that we had restored to original, and now we are modifying as another 50's style cruizer with a later merc flathead. That car is too valuable to do anything unreversable to, but a dropped axle and hot flatty will be nice.
I also had gotten into model rockets for a little while. I live around too many trees for that, though!
Oh, I can't believe I almost forgot my model cars. Mostly 1/25 plastic kits, I have more than I can count! Including a few I havn't built yet. Some new and some vintage. I built a model of my truck. I also built a model of my mustang using a dicast 67 fastback and a dicast 65 coupe for the roof, formed the trunk from aluminum and used pc7 to epoxy it together. used a 68 for some other parts, and I have a clone to my car that you can't just go and buy!

Good advice,Lie
Just kidding, dont drink(tried that, free room and board in the countylockup doesnt sound good).Dont do drugs (crazy enough already)but I am addicted to those nasty cancer sticks.Ive tried sweet talking her,but she is to smart for that.I think I will just wait till the next time her car breaks down.Haha.
I sure would like to see some of you ice sculptures, they had a contest about 30mi from here and guys came from all over.It was awesome.True artists.
I dont have many hobbies any more . Paintball used to be my big thing but it got so expensive. $430 for a gun, $70 for a mask, $50 for a hopper, so on and so on and for up grades and since I loved my gun I bought the best paint for it and it just got so expensive now that my truck is here. Now I just fix that, so I guess its just switched from paintball to workin on trucks which is a good trade lol.

Just the hat,but I saw a movie Rainman maybe, where the train would come by his headboard and wake him up in the morning. If I can ever convince the queen to let me put a hole through a couple walls,,,,

I know,I have read some of your threads on paintball guns, and have even thought of mentioning,as much as you know about paint guns, maybe you should try being a weapons specialist in the Marines. The way you put your mind to paint guns,I bet you would be real good with real ones.
Toy trains here.I have quite a few Lionel, mostly from the fiftys.I'm thinking about selling them on e-bay as none of the kids or grandchildren seem interested in them.I bought everything in sight for a few years, then lost interest.Same thing with my die-cast collection.I bought about $2000 worth, then lost interest.Train layouts are cool, and lets you use your imagination.
Im into nitro R/c trucks. Right now i have a t-maxx that goes 40 and an e-maxx (electric) that does 30. I put like 500 bucks into each one and they still dont go fast enough.
