My hobby- is the arts. I draw (graphite portraits are my specialty), paint, sculpt. I also sew, quilt, and make jewelry. I love to cook too!
My dream hobby though would be glass-blowing.. I want to try that REALLY bad. I love Dale Chihuly's work, he's amazing. Maybe some day, but I'm in college so money is tight.. Dale Chihuly's website- glass
WOW,you aren`t kidding that guy is talented,I envy you artists, the only thing I can draw is blood from smacking a knuckle will wrenching on something.
I do machine shop stuff, welding, ham radio, shooting. I like hobbies that you can do almost any time of the year. Oh yeah, working on cars. I have kind of slacked off in that dept. Too many projects and not enough time.
A friend of mine used to be real heavy into ham radio,I used to go over his house and he would tune in some foreign country and then we would try and figure out what they were saying, then it would move to improvising what they were saying,he had a ton of money into his equiptment. He used to get the biggest kick out of overpowering the truckers, dont ask me how,but he could tell which ones had boosters and he just loved messing with them.
I forgot to mention that I model in N scale. No layout yet, just a bunch of rolling stock. I have plans in the back of my head to model a power plant owned by the utility I work for. It is the world's largest coal shipping destination and receives an average of 3.7 110 car unit trains a day.
My interest is 1960's and later deisel motive power and unusual rolling stock.

Walthers Model train equiptment has alot of stuff that might help you with allthe equiptment you will need for your power plant,if you want their catalog just dial 18004trains.
Hey awatchman, you serious, where did you learn to play the bagpipes,I played clarinet up until my senior year in highschool and whenever I asked about learning the bagpipes they just looked at me like I was nuts.

Nitro?they actually run on nitro?or is that just a brand name,I have an electric r/c car ZZ Top,that a friend had dumped tons of money into,he ran into money problems and blew his realcar up.He gave it to me as payment.I didnt really want it,but knew this was the only way he could pay me for rebuiling his engine. It is fun to mess with, but goes dead fast because of the bigger electric motor he put in it.
ya it runs on 20% nitro (not 90%-95% like top fuel dragsters run) These things are wicked fast although they make cars that are about twice as fast as my truck. I also forgot to mention that I have an H.o. train layout myself. Unfortunately I have not worked on it in 3 years since we have moved. Someday though I'm going to finnish building my shed and put my train layout in there and finish it too.
I've been a Ham Radio operator for 12 years. I collect, build, restore and operate mostly older vacuum tube equipment. Most of the collection is stored at my parents house until my fiance and I get a house.
I also collect Lionel Trains. I originally started out with HO scale, but once we took the layout down, we boxed that all away. My interest was sparked in Lionel several years later and I have been collecting here and there. I keep the Lionel stuff at the apartment even though I don't have a layout. I collect Pre-War and Post-War. Someday it will be nice to run them.. why own them if you don't run em' once in a while??
Finally, I fly R/C electric planes. I have 4 flightworthy planes and two in the box. It's almost flying season again.. all are awaiting a nice calm day!

They say thats what makes the difference between a collector and a hobbiest,A collector just buys them and puts them in cases and looks at them.So that makes me a hobbiest.cause if I cant put it on my track,I dont want it.I would rather have one a couple years old that I can enjoy than one that is antique that I would be afraid of damaging.
I race go karts, just against my uncle and my friend. I have 2 karts right now. One I built myself. They both have 5hp briggs and stratton engines on them. I have a dyno cam in the one, other one is stock, but they both have no govener. So they both run wide open. With the current gearing I run around 40 mph, but I can run about 50 mph if I go to a smaller axle gear. At 40 mph it is plenty fast enough for me when im sitting an inch off of the ground. I got pictures of my karts if anyone wants to see. Later Fred

I see you are from Mi,have you ever heard of a guy called nascarkent,he is a friend of mine, and builds and races some wicked go-carts,and he restores old tractors also.
Well, as of this past weekend, my new hobby is fixing up my "new" RV. It's a 77 Serro Scotty Sportsman. It's got a working propane fridge, 3 burner stove, and a heater. It has a city water hookup, "shore power," a bathroom, tons of storage, all under 1500 lbs at 13'.
aside from dirtbiking, my latest project is a 64 thunderbird, i got lucky and found one last oct. no rust ,yea would believe it here in ohio, land of the salt shakers. i think it has only 18,000 miles on it, paints pretty faded.this past weekend i started on rebuilding the pwr steering pump, steering shaft, and the power window switchs, called a guy i know from a local t-bird club, gave him a list of parts that i need, i'm hopin to be able to have it ready for the paint shop by late next month.
awatchman did you say you played bagpipes? cool are you scottish?
My biggest hobby involves shooting holes in paper from as far as I can. Kinda neat to load your own rounds, checking (and grouping according to weight) each bullet and case before loading. Then you gotta check each round for concentricity. Then you hope your wind doping is good. Then you hope the range doesn't have any thermals.
On a good day I can put five rounds into a volleyball sized group at 1000 yards.
It really is very relaxing to hit the range and knock off 100 or so rounds.
I used to be into N scale railroading. But Right now I rent so I can't have my layout. Someday when I build my house I'm making a train room. All of my buildings and rolling stock are in boxes. I used to have a 15x12 foot table that I only got about half done. Then I moved.
350 for a locomotive is fair. When the other half spends 400 for a skirt thats not much more than a fancy towel.
But Since I have no layout now I'm into RC airplanes. Started last summer. I figured they are cheaper than the real thing. But I do fly for real quite a bit, just its to darn spendy. I'm a flight nut.
