Wow,I didn`t even know they made 12ft rockets,I have messed with the small ones a little, but that is kids stuff compared to what your talking.Got any pictures, and where do you launch them here?
And Mil1ion,how did you know that one of my dreams would be to put an actual caboose in my front yard?
Next big launch in Michigan is April 24&25 in Three Oaks, MI. It's a 2+ square mile cornfield with ~5 miles of additional recovery area surrounding it.
We usually get a couple hundred fliers out. It's a fully FAA waivered and insured organized launch complete with range safety officiers, etc.
A few years ago, I flew a orange highway traffic barrel called "FTBOD" in Upstate NY. http://www.rocketreviews.com/reviews...8/traffic.html http://web.syr.edu/~rmpitzer/nypower...es/018_15A.htm
It weighed ~75 pounds, complete with two flasher units on top and 13 pounds of rocket propellant. It flew to ~2000' at 250 mph in ~4 seconds under ~700 pounds of thrust.
Well, grew up with HO trains(dad was big into it, a long standing member of the NMRA). I still have both mine and all his equipment(1950-60's motive power), some hand build. I still have the bug, but dont have the MONEY to build. I'm too much into the drag racing/hot rod scene to pour money into a layout also. I race weekly, plus drive my hot rods whenever possible. I got into the antique truck stuff a couple years ago and now have ANOTHER money pit sitting in the drive (1959 B model Mack-as scene in my avatar).
I enjoy boating, but sold it due to lack of use. I have also gotten involved in antique construction equipment. I don't own one yet, but it kinda follows along with the truck stuff. Most of the guys in the clubs own both. Got to have one to haul the other . Running a 1940's cable shovel is just , or maybe a cable operated D8 CAT .
If you can tell, I'm VERY mechanical. If it smokes or makes noise...I'm into it.
Did I mention I have a couple R/C trucks. The one is a King Hauler semi. Pretty cool if you have ever seen one. Three spd tranny, full working suspension with actual differentials, all alum. frame..... Almost too nice to run.
They say thats what makes the difference between a collector and a hobbiest,A collector just buys them and puts them in cases and looks at them.So that makes me a hobbiest.cause if I cant put it on my track,I dont want it.I would rather have one a couple years old that I can enjoy than one that is antique that I would be afraid of damaging.
I have a collection of antique cameras that are just sitting in crates waiting for me to build some displays for them. My oldest one dates back to the late 1800's and is an old Gennert Studio Camera. I stopped aquiring them when I started aquiring kids 21 years ago, but haven't had the heart to sell them.
I race R/C boats in the summer. I have a 7.5cc outboard tunnel hull that I run on 50% nitro, it's been on the clocked at 65mph. And a 30cc homelite weedeater powered SLS class mono hull, it runs 30-35mph with the stock engine.
......awatchman did you say you played bagpipes? cool are you scottish?
I saw that, too. The bagpipe is a tough instrument to master. At my brother's wedding, he and I wore kilts (I was his Best Man) and we had a piper playing throughout the day. Sweet. Oh, Clan Fraser of Lovet here.

As an engineer, I would've just about paid to see a flying traffic barrel!
well, back in my drinking days,I launched a few traffic barrels myself, but they weren`t on a vertical trajectory,I went to the link, but all I saw was a landing picture,I would love to see a launch picture,I bet it shot out one heck of a flame! And yup,you are deffinetly a camera collector.
I must add my name to the list of people with the H.O. stash. I had a layout up until I got my truck. The money could only go one way, and the garage layout had to go to make room for parts. I plan on setting up a nice layout for my son when he gets old enough to repect it. The Walthers catalog is great for train stuff. I like the GE locos.
Lots of other hobbies.
R/c cars: Team Losi XXX-4 Graphite Plus
R/C plane, Enya 40 powered trainer so far.
Small model rockets. If I lose them in the desert I can afford it.
Hiking / geocaching
Camping
Biking
Computer programing (.NET, Prolog, C, Java, Servlets, JSP, ML, Icon, SQL/PL, etc.....)
Cigars
Golf
Oh and of course my 1951 F2!

If you back up a half dozen photos on the site, you'll see it taking off. It shot blue/white flames about 10' out of the back.
I fly R/C airplanes when I have the chance, which isn't very often anymore. That's where I got my username from. Have a piston powered F-15 that would love to be flown, but I don't think my thumbs are smart enough. And the result of "dumb thumbs".....
I have both HO and O scale trains, but sadly, I do not have enough space for a layout. I have about 100 HO cars, locomotives, and other rolling stock. I have about 10 O scale cars and 2 locomotives, (Lionel F-3 and Lionel RS-1), Lionel is definitely expensive. I also have a few MTH cars as well.
King Triton, I built a homemade Work Caboose one time, I wanted to model a CSX work caboose, it turned out ok, but my painting skills aren't quite up to the challenge yet.
I have a Traxxas Stampede 4x2 Monster Truck. It is awesome, but I spend more time fixing it than anything else. Right now, I'm gonna have to order a clutch, a tail pipe, a new body, and a new starter gear. They were right when they told me that nitro trucks are more troublesome.
I also have a Tamiya Clod Buster 4x4 Monster Truck with 4 wheel steering. This thing kills a 7.2v battery in 20 minutes or less. Lots of fun though.
I used to build model cars, but I lost interest in it. I still have a kit for a '90 F-350 Dually that I'd like to finish putting together. I also have a bunch of kits for '60's era Mustangs and one for a Dodge Challenger.
I also hunt and fish.
I fix lawnmowers on the side (outside of school), so I don't think that counts as a hobby.
Jpsartre12,man that was fantastic, what are you going to launch next?
Mw95f250 have you ever seen some of the painting the pro`s do to engines, right down to the soot from the exhaust, those guys are gifted.
Flyboy, dont feel to bad,I tried to fly a friends so called undestructable Trainer, well the key word here is "undestructable"He still gets mad at me every time somebody mentions it.But he knows I didn`t mean to put it through his window.
