DOWNPIPE???????

Can I add a 3.5" downpipe and keep the stock exhaust? Do you still get the same results....lower egt's or does this just defeat the purpose? I want to retain the stock exhaust if possible, but want the larger down pipe. Any help, ideas, anything????

It would be like putting headers on a gasser, but keeping the stock exhaust system. There is an improvement, but not as much as if you replaced the whole thing, and removed the catalytic convertor at the same time.

And a wish list that gets longer every day.

It could be. I haven't measured it yet. I guess this means I will be looking at a 4". My main reason is to lower egt's with my SCMT on the 80hp setting. I assume that after the heat disperses through the down pipe, the gasses should?? be noemal by the time they hit the rest of the plumbing....how close to being wrong am I?????

Quadzilla, I know your wish list is getting longer, but it seems to me that the mods already completed gets longer too!!!! Sounds like a bad PSD to me

It may be that the stock downpipe is 3.5" but look at the shape, the thing is almost flattened, not sure why they thought they had to pancake the thing so bad from the factory. I replaced mine with a 3.5" downpipe I got off this site and it was perfectly round, made a noticeable difference.

Is a non-flattened downpipe just a bolt-on installation or do I have to start cutting and bending things to get clearance? My '97 F250 doesn't have a lot of room between the engine and firewall.

As far as i am aware , installing a bigger downpipe isnt rhe easiest thing in the world to do. Heard stories about people "beating" their firewall for clearance...

DOWNPIPE???????

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Dec-02 AT 02:42 PM (EST)]You'll have to cut the old downpipe to get it out, the replacement is a two piece.

There is a lip where your firewall and body meet that may need to be trimmed or bent a little especially if you go with a larger downpipe, still nothing major.
