I bought this truck new, and it has always had a slight miss just after the temp guage starts rising off "cold", until it gets to the lower end of "normal" range. I only noticed it if idling through town, and it always ran strong with a little throttle.
Lately, it is missing badly, even under power, but still in the same temp range.
Any ideas?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Dec-02 AT 05:34 PM (EST)]Got to have more info. How old is the truck? How long have you had it? How many miles? Does it smoke after starting? Was it effected by the onset of cold weather, etc. I've found if you can narrowly describe the problem this board is pretty good at diagnosing the problem. Off the top of my head it sounds like a glow plug problem. Seeing as it goes away when it warms up. There are a lot of posts on checking glow plugs/relays on the board. Hope this helped.
It's a '95 w/ 94,000 mi. And, yes, it has smoked when started cold, but still starts good at 20 degrees. I don't doubt that some of the glow plugs should be replaced, but this seems like an exageration of the same symptoms it's had since new.
And, it runs fine for the first 2-3 miles.
I'm thinking some kind of temp. sensor.
When you first start it, you say it smokes. What color is the smoke, and does it continue to smoke after the first mile?

There's a sensor called the Engine Oil Temperature sensor, and from what I understand, it increases the amount of fuel deliverd to the injectors until the engine oil reaches a certain temperature, similar to a choke on a gasser, I guess. I'm really shooting from the hip on this, but I guess it could be that yours isn't functioning properly, and isn't adding the extra fuel it should be. I've got a handful of my friends that hang out on this board that are better qualified to answer this question. With a little luck, they'll stop by. Where are you Patrick Feeley, GTSPowerstroke, and DieselF350?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Dec-02 AT 11:38 AM (EST)]Would this be something that should show up as an error code? (I've been procrastinating on a trip to the dealer)
I'm not sure of that. Hang on for a little while and see if someone with more expertise weighs in on this.
