when in idle it feels like it shakes somewhat and i was wondering if maybe the idle is set too low and the engine is chugging to stay running causing the shakes or could it be caused by something else?
I had this problem also. Was bad gas or water in gas.I run a tank of high grade once a month or every few months and put a can of dry gas cleared the problem right up.
hope this helps
I've got a 94 with this same problem (fiancee's mother's van) I can't find a vacuum leak and with a vacuum gage attached it reads at 16 in/hg but every few seconds falls down to ten I think I have a dead cylinder but I haven't a had a chance to pull the plugs and check compression. All the plugs wires cap and rotor are about 6 months old. This seem right for dead cylinder to you?
I don't know about a dead cylinder. But I had to finally take my 94 AWD to a dealer to find all th vacuum leaks and then when he "fixed " it, none of the dash controls ie air conditioner , vent or heater worked! I had to return it for them to fix that problem. They said the vacuum line to them must of been knocked off when they were looking for the other leaks. So good luck finding them!
my 91 also has a slight shake at idle. Vacuum sits at 16" so yours sounds about right. The drop to 10" is a sign of something funky. Maybe a valve, rocker, lifter, lobe. I need to do a compression test also but do not have a long enough tester hose. When I do ,I will post.
Hey Machman, looks like I forgot to update this thread as to why my van shook at idle, I had a cracked head which leaked coolant onto the exhaust valve and burned so that I had no compression in cylinder six, I got another head from the junkyard and I'm back on the road and running strong.
