Weird Shake at Idle After Service

We had a main bearing seal and some transfer case seals replaced that required removal of the transmission. Got it back and the wife drove it home. First time I got in it I noticed that while at idle in park or neurltral it shakes. The shake goes on and off in about 2 second intervals. Feels like something out of balance. At speed it rides smooth with no shake. Shifts fine and no problems. What could cause this?

My first thought might be a misfire, perhaps the mechanic didn't plug an injector or COP in properly, or even swapped the connectors between two cylinders.

No codes come up. Vehicle runs smooth and it doesn't feel like a miss. Could it be some kind of balance issue with the torque converter or something else when they put the transmission back in? They can't figure it out.

Not unless they dropped the converter when putting it in.. But that would be a constant shake, not coming and going. If it's a constant rhythm to the shake, it might be mechanical. As it sounds like it's even when you're not moving, then anything after transmission can be ruled out.

You said it comes and goes with intervals of about 2 seconds, is this constant? Does it change with engine speed?

Did you called the shop that did the work and report it to them yet? Maybe they've had this happen before and already know the answer.

They had it for two days trying to figure it out and took it to another tranny guy for a second opinion. It goes away at about 1500-2000 rpm or when you put it in gear at any rpm. It only shakes in park or neutral. It shakes constant for two seconds, smooth for 2 seconds, shakes for 2, etc. It seemed to smooth out after about 15 minutes of idling but comes right back if I drive it again. When driving everything is smooth and even parked in gear it's smooth.

There's not really a whole lot going on in the transmission when it's in neutral/park. The converter is rotating, which drives the oil pump and the input shaft, and that's about it. Though Mark could probably tell a lot more about this, I don't think any of the planetary gears are rotating at all when it's in neutral
