I'm a fairly new member here, but it seems like each day there are more and more complaints. Everyday I check this forum at least once and see the same sort of topics; vibration experiments, tailgate studies, windshield noise, no A/C, clicking noise at idle, delay in gas pedal, engine limp mode, brake dust, bad gas mileage, etc. etc. etc.
Ahh sorry I just had a bad day... just venting. Though I am going to make a suggestion that there be a sub-forum added for problems and complaints.
im going to have to agree this forum is known as the complaint forum on other Ford truck forums.
I for one want to read of all the problems arrising from this new so called "truck of the year" I bought. So keep complaining or passing on any info pro or con.How else are we supposed to learn.
I think you guys are missing the idea. It seems you all think that adding a complaint/problem forum is going to eliminate this one. Last time I checked 1+1 still equals 2.
If there were 2 forums then you could goto the complaint/problem forum and discuss problems your having with your truck and the main forum would be left for everything non problematic.
It seems like 90% of the posts are problems or complaints. All the other posts get buried too fast.
Quote:"Sounds like a Ford employee worried about losing his job to Nissan, Toyota, or Dodge."
Since you brough it up I will say that I have turned down a job at Nissan with slightly higher pay/benefits to stay where I am. Losing my job? That's not the case. Yes I do work for Ford, but I am and have always been a Ford enthusiast even before I could drive. I'm not trying to protect my company or keep others from complaining about a product it produces... this is not the place to do such a thing. Even as a Ford employee I would still complain about a problem with my truck on this site. Fortunately my truck has perfomed flawlessly other than the power rear window rattle.
A sub-forum to the 2004 F-150 forum for problems sounds like a reasonable request. I'd still like to hear about problems so I can figure out if I have the same problem and get the proper fix for it if someone has the fix. I have no trouble so far and I hope it stays that way. Different people react differently to the same problem. I've seen customers at a Porsche dealer I worked for come in and complain about the most insignificant 'problem'...and you'd think the world was coming to an end because of the problem they had. On the other hand, other customers came in and hauled their dogs around in their Porsche and they had hair and scratches all over their nice 911...but they didn't seem to care. Just depends on the person. Some people are too demanding and think everything should be perfect...some people understand complex mechanical devices sometimes have trouble and go through the process to get it corrected and still some other people let problems go and don't seem to care at all. Go figure. Ultimately, people who are unreasonable and basically make ridiculous and unreasonable complaints will be seen for what they are by others....so maybe it's best to just forget about it and let people make fools of themselves if they want to. I tend to subscribe to the idea that people that have problems with their truck and people that absolutely LOVE their trucks (and have no trouble) are the people you will find here on this site. I think the average buyer will not show up here for their own reasons. So you have people that love their truck (and have no problems) complaining about those who have trouble complaining about their truck. Kinda funny actually. It's life people...it happens. Don't get too upset about it. There are better things to worry about. I visit this site to get info (from the buying process to help with problems to looking at other's photos)...but after I turn my PC off and go outside, I forget about this site completely. Keep things in perspective

lariatf150,
Yes I guess it is sort of ironic. I don't really get "upset" about the complaining. It's just that different people complain about the same thing over and over and over.
Example... the infamous "vibration" problem. Just scroll through the threads and look at ALL the topics relating to the "vibration" issue. Every one of them is discussing the same thing. Different people ranting and raving about the same thing. Why can't these people just add to another thread instead of starting a carbon copy of a previous problem???
Administration needs to enforce the use of the search function. About once a week someone starts a new thread about how their truck vibrates

You've hit the nail on the head. That's almost as bad as the infinite number of posts titled "How do I change my oil" or "what kind of oil and/or filter do I use?"
yea maybe its some of the same old questions that are asked, but it gives somebody "new" a chance to post a response, and maybe throw in a new answer, yes ive probably answered a few questions that have been asked a few times and i enjoy being able to add my .02's in. and it also helps having new blood here too... one thing don't care for is the constant negitives about a problem maybe if we put are heads togethers we can help solve the problem instead of bashing each other like in another thread concerning the VIBS. issue ......oh well sorry about the rant fellows...

So what you're saying is we should spend even more hours baby-sitting the forums and discourage posting? That's counter-intuitive. A forum is all about participation. While you may be tired of a topic to a new comer its new and fresh.
One solution to the complaints is for the existing members to bring up and talk about other things, not to try and shut up people who have legitimate concerns with their vehicles. Or, click the notification link by their post, let us know it should be merged with another topic and we'll merge it.
Often people don't take issues to their dealers so manufacturers may not even be aware that an issue is common. Frank discussion of problems without attacks gives Ford (and they do visit) a chance to see how their product is performing and improve them. This benefits everyone.... the buyer and Ford. A quality product will sell more units. IMHO, there's a good chance that the 1997+ F-150 door crack issue would have never been addressed had this site and another F-150 site not brought the issue out and shown how common it was.
Look at the big hit threads here guys. Problems, concerns, questions, issues, and polls. That's really where people's "enthusiasm" is.
If there were two separate forums you know which one would be the most popular. Having a "problems" forum that's more popular than a "how much I like my truck" forum would no doubt be odd.
The multiple threads about similiar issues arent a problem to me but it does seem some posts are bull sxxx make believe. I vote for open expression of ideas but keep in mind it is easy for people to post and not all posts are factual i.e. it is easy to say there is x problem with y product but that doesnt make it so. Moral of the story---i read the posts but i dont leave common sense behind. Just my opinion based on the 7 to 8 2004 trucks that i have personal experience with. I dont want a flame war with those of you who are unlucky enough to have a 2004 problem--just a general observation.
