im wanting to do the same thing. i have a 94 and want a tach. my uncle has a junked 91-92 with a tach that im pretty sure will fit even though it looks a little different it is shaped the same. only problem is it is a 2.9 V6 and mine is a 2.3 4 and i dont know if the tach will work and thats why i want it. what do you guys think?
It is illegal to tamper with the odometer. Just install the replacement "as is".
The later 90's instrument clusters are "plug and play". Explorers and Rangers are the same. Not sure about the earlier 90's Ranger clusters, though. I would say go for it and see what happens, you have nothting to lose.
by plug and play you mean the wires should match up exactly and it should work perfectly correct?
and who could ever tell i tamperd w/ it all i have to say is i purchased it afterwards and the tamperin evidence was like that when i purchased it not that they'd ever notice in the first place
I have swapped the instrument cluster out on my vehicle and everything worked out just fine. The wires just plug in the same way they came out and everything works just like the original.
About the odometer rolling. It varies from state to state. In NC I was alowed to roll the odometer and fill a milage disclosure statement. It had to be noterized and submited with fees. ~$10. Hope this helps.
contact your local sheriff or police depot and ask them. I had to go to the DMV website but it varies from state to state. It wouldn't hurt to talk to an officier to find out your states detail.
Okay, let me get this right. When I go to the junk yard what year Rangers/Explorer can I get a instrument cluster w/ a tack out of to fit my 00 4X2 Ranger? Do any of these years come w/ white faced clusters already? My truck interior is Gray/Black and a white cluster would look sharp. I've noticed that some cars come w/ white faced clusters now.
