i get a rearend bump when i come to a stop while breaking. i have a fully electronic 4 speed with OD, 97 ford xtl with 113k. i just had the tranny's fluid and filter changed yesterday but a day later the problem still persist. any similiars. thanks for your insight.
check your upper control arm on the rear end were it bolts to the body. if this bolt comes loose it makes a good bump noise as you discribed. mine did this and it took me the longest time to figure it out. this bolt must be very tight.
i placed the car in neutral while coming to a stop. i did not feel a bump. i believe that i have ruled out the brakes and suspension. i also had the drive shaft checked. it was tight and without movement. furthermore, i allowed the car to coast down a hill while in 1st gear then i applied the brakes and did not felt a bump.
the car feels like its sluggish and lacking power upon accel. after accel, when i come to a stop i getting a bump. i believe that it is the tranny. any insights or tests i could do to confirm. what could be causing this.
if your idle is too fast it can cause this
try shifting to nutral before come to a stop. if you do not get the bump then your idle speed needs to be lowered.
i believe that my differential is going. anybody having similiar symptoms and what is this going to cost me? is it better to rebuild or just put in a completely new rearend?
if the rear end is quiet while your driving i really doubt that is is bad. they usually make whinning noise all the time or a lot of noise when they are bad.
i have seen where the carrier will wear againt the pin in the diff an it will do a clunk when u got in to 1st gear an some times it would clunk leaving from a light. it would sound like it was u joints or bearing worn out .
had it checked out. appears rear bushings in the stablizer bracket are worn. the bracket that attaches the rear axle to the frame. put the car on a lift and the whole rearend moved. a/b wants $240 for the job. the bushing kit cost $36 plus 2.5 hours of labor @ 80 bucks.
my earlier post suggested that you check the rear bushing that bolts to the body. mine made this same noise and all i did was tighten up the big bolts with a breaker bar
but yours could be worn out but i would ??? that because those are big giant bushings that move very little under normal driving. good luck
